  • DO NOT BUY ANY PROMAX gear.

I purchased the DA-MAX+, from promax. It has never worked properly. It will only play about 1 min. of footage before the viewer in “Log/cature” locks up. Two firewire ports did not work on the thing. The guy who built the thing for them doesn’t even work there anymore and they can’t repair it. based on this track record….. I would not buy anything from them that “they had manufactured”…..

ProMax in general is a good company. However, these transcoders do leave a lot to be desired.

I wouldn’t stop shopping there based on general and vague info like you gave. Is it still under warranty? Had it been fixed under warranty, and now the warranty has run out they won’t fix it for free anymore? Did you ask for your money back and they refused? Did they say they can’t repair it because they don’t know how and give you a “good luck”? Did you ask for a replacement? Did you express your frustration to their customer service department and they blew you off?

Granted, We did have issues with during the evolution of this product but not to this extreem. We have over 1000 units out all over the planet and have never received a response like this one. We have a tech support department with skilled techs whom are up to speed on the product. Why not give us a call at 877-776-6292? FYI, the DAMAX is not an High Def transcoder. SD or DV only. Also be sure you have no other transcoders like a DV deck for example, connected at the same time as the DAMAX. Do run the DAMAX control application at the same time as your editing app. Try recycling the power by unplugging the power supply for 5 seconds. Don’t be shy, give us a buzz.

First off, it’s hard to qualify a statement such as yours when we have no idea who you are or what you do. Fill out your profile so we know exactly who is making this statement. Very easy to complain as an anonymous poster, but it carries more weight if you know more about you. You can view my profile to find out pretty much anything you want to know about me or visit my website.

I have purchased almost my entire facility from ProMax over the past four years and they’ve been nothing but fantastic both before and after the sale. If you are having problems with the product, I find it hard to believe they would leave you hanging with a bad product. I would expect them to either fix it or repair it.

ProMax is simply one of the best VAR’s out there who have supported the Final Cut Pro community pretty much from day one of the product. Great company and I have no problems recommending them to anyone.

From time to time, we all have problems with our gear. Sometimes it’s “pilot error,” sometimes it’s a faulty piece of equipment. That’s part of the business. The solution, however, is not to publicly slag one of the finest and longest-running companies in the business.

I’m still running a G4/KonaSD/DAMAX+ box after three years from purchase. Flawless.

I have no clue as to where your computing problem lies, but I would most certainly suggest that there are other ways of dealing with it.

I had problems with it from day one. And basically they gave me the good luck pat on the back. No, they don’t repair. And the latest techie will get back too you and they blame it on an tape or FCP problem. Well it happens with beta sp tapes that have virgins on playback. And FCP works flawlessly everywhere else.

Larry i did that I’ve called Tech support and spoke to Paco and another guy. I’ve done everything they’ve told me too. I wish I could be compensated for the HOURs spent having to RE-capture. I only have a beta sp 75 or sometimes a 2800 connected. Just the other day we found that the first two firewire ports where not working.

well you could consider it “Highly inflammatory, highly unprofessional.” But, I promise you if you have had the deadend problem with ANY of your equipment and wasn’t getting ANY kind or real solutions to the problems. You’d be yelling from the rooftops. I’ve had this thing and not ONE time has it worked properly. No one time. And at Promax they tell you unplug for ten sec.s. reboot, delete user preferences in my libary, like I had done those things several times already. And that still did not fix the problem.
