I respect your position in the FCp community. I’ve always gotten good advice from you. I just think that a few cursory comments from their tech support should have been able to fix the problem. I can not believe that NO one else has had any problems with their DAMAX. Actually how many are still in use? I bet I couldn’t get more then a couple hundred bucks for it on ebay. I am glad for manufactures that support FCP. But I don’t buy that I just happen to have the only one that isn’t working.

We have a DaMax that we use daily to beam live edits to client via ichat. It works pretty well. Every now and then (maybe once or twice a month) it’ll lock up and you may have to cycle the power to get it back running again. Before We had Our uncompressed system, which we also purchased from ProMax, we used this DaMax to digitize from a beta deck for FCP. We never really had a problem with it. Also their support folks were always friendly and responded quickly. The only problem I’ve ever had with them is when they sent us the wrong RAM, twice, in one week, but they were very quick to fix the problem, and we had the proper ram with in a few days of the first mistake.

[hdfilmmaker] “btw, my profile is updated. I had changed account names.

You’ll need to fix the link to your blog. Our mechanism requires that you have the https:// part — otherwise it tries to find the link within our site.

The only problem I’ve had with them is that they’re too far south of LA for a quick purchase. I know what it’s like to get a bad piece of equipment though, so let’s call you infuriated and frustrated for being the one in a thousand with a bad piece of hardware. Statistically speaking, you should go buy another one from them. Lightening rarely strikes twice in the same place.

Of course, I just got a SATA Array from the DR Group in hollywood and it so far is FLYING. Maybe you should pamper yourself and get a phat upgrade :-). FCP will love you for it.

I can’t recall another post regarding that product on this forum. If it was a real problem with the product line, the board would have lit up with a lot of posts.

It’s probably not the only one, but it appears you have an exception to the rule and not the norm on this product based on the lack of issues that have appeared on this forum.

When products don’t work, a lot of folks start posting problems. As this product has been around for a while, I’m thinking you’re having problems with your particular unit. Posting an inflammatory thread really doesn’t help your problem and to say not to purchase equipment from a major supporter and supplier of audio / video equipment is counter-productive. I personally don’t purchase from B&H Photo anymore, but I wouldn’t discourage anyone else from doing so, it’s a personal preference. If you’re really that un-happy with the product and ProMax, then don’t purchase from them any further.

They’re a fantastic company and I really think you need to contact the management of company directly to get a resolution. Contact your sales person and request to speak to management.

Today’s my first day with Kona2. You won’t be disappointed. It’s even better than I had hoped. I was really stoked to discover that, when an A/V type program isn’t running, Kona turns your TV or monitor into a 3rd desktop (I run a dual monitor setup). Get the KBox, it’s cheap and gives you a little more flexibility.

Can I be very unproffesional and say, Kona 2 kicks ass? If you’re out there, thanks for the recommendation, Walter!

    Mr HD.

Over the years we’ve bought A LOT (Well over six figures) worth of gear from promax. Sure there have been some problems, but we’ve always had swift and satisfactory resolutions to our problems.

I think you’re really going overboard taking such an aggressive stand against them. All I can say is my experience with PROMAX over the years does NOT match yours. There are so many better ways to get a resolution to your problem that to try to slam them on this board.
