May 12, 2010 at 12:38 pm in reply to: Windows 7 64 bit + 7.6 Decklink drivers = not workingAh, we had this problem with Decklink cards back in 2007, when we built machines running XP64 with 8GB RAM.
The problem, according to Blackmagic, was that the PCI cards were unable to work in machines with larger amounts of RAM, as you have described.
We had to remove and sell our PCI cards and replace with PCIe which have been fixed from a hardware point-of-view to be compatible.
So, if your cards are PCI, there is your problem and it will never be fixable as it is a hardware issue. Replace with PCIe units and you should be fine.

Wow, finally.
I’d not heard of this feature anywhere else.I assume for dual layer discs it will create two DDP files sets?
I’ve been working with a state-of-the-art DVD-Video encryption technology company, who are getting the huge Technicolor plants on board, and we found issues with files created by Encore.
There’s a problem with how the files are written with UDF and ISO in the fileset.
Will be interesting to see if they Adobe fix this too.

Just so you know, I got this solved.
Just have to leave the machine for a loooooong time (I’m talking a few hours) before it actually starts to build.
On XP32bit I got this error message, apparently solvable here https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/145/865932 but I found the error doesn’t even show up on XP64 which is interesting…
Got there in the end – was just worrying not knowing what was going on when deadlines loom.

A cheap blackmagic card might sort you out.

I would say “thank god it’s not just us” but that would make it sound like a positive thing.
Exactly the same symptoms here as you described, on every install of CS3 whether on a 32 or 64bit OS.
It’s kind of embarrassing when you’ve got clients sat behind you anre you are there like “yeah… come on…. aaaaaaaaaaany time today please [insert CS3 app name of choice]”
Spend a fortune on high-end kit, get the latest tools… and then … Sucks. 🙁

Hmmm, well I wonder which way around it is.
The Adobe blog where they discussed the development of CS4 basically said that CS4 for Windows would have a 64bit version, while Macs would not get the 64bit treatment until CS5.
If they are only optimising for 64bit operating systems, why not go the whole hog and actually compile a 64bit version?
At least that mention of a laptop with 4GB RAM with 7 Adobe apps runing sound promising – I worry about this sort of situation now as Adobe apps get more and more bloated. The CS3 video apps (AFX, Prem, Encore) all take so long to initialise, take so long even to display a splash screen, that you wonder if you double-clicked the icon properly. I’m talking a good 15-30 seconds depending on how it feels. That on a well optimised system with quad Xeons and 8GB ram in 64bit OS. The [negative] difference in loading times between CS2 and CS3 was incredible.
That’s a different discussion so… so err back to the topic in hand – come Adobe, get yourselves sorted!! We use 64bit 3D software, 64bit 3D motion tracker… need 64bit video tools too. Even Avid have gone 64bit some time ago…

I would find it incredible if PPro wasn’t 64bit. Photoshop is so why not the other packages?
I can make Ppro CS3 crash very quickly if working in HD, due to running out of RAM.
Question is will all these tools work nicely in 64 bit modes, in XP64? I am dreading the thought of having to “upgrade” to Vista…

We’ve just installed Decklink Extreme PCIe cards after the older PCI models did not work with greater than 2GB RAM.
Premiere had no presets found, but these instruction have made it work, so thanks.
Now all I need to do is make After Effects work with the output – currently I have two options for Blackmagic video output in my video preview settings, and neither of them seem to work….

as per my post in another thread…
Hi,
We had this problem as well back in June when we built our new machines with 8GB ram.
After some slow discussion with BM tech support, it transpires the situation is quite simple, if annoying.
On XP64 with more than 2GB RAM, the only Deckoinks which will work are apparently all HD models, and only the SD with PCIe (PCI Express) connection – WITH DRIVER VERSION 6.3 or higher.
The older SD cards with PCI ports will not work as the hardware simply will not allow it.
We are upgrading to PCIe versions of their cards.
** although it sounds like here there are probs with the HD cards too!
