see if the hard drive you’re exporting to is formatted for PC or Mac. PC formatting has a file size limitation that sometimes triggers that general error. If that’s the case, reformat the drive using apple disk utility. Formatted for Macs, the hard drive will take as much data as it can, until it reaches it’s storage limit. Hope this was it. Good luck

You’ve probably already tried rebooting your Mac right? If so, try to open another FCP project if you have one on file, to avoid that large project you think may be causing issues? If that doesn’t work, I’d suggest a reinstall of FCP? Good luck.

so….reformat your usb drives to mac format using disk utilitie in your utilities folder. also, how come you’re not using firewire hard drives? Much better, even works as media drives for SD FCP projects. You have to format these for Macs as well. Good luck!

Depends on your export settings? If you’re exporting as NTSC-DV, it’s made to be viewed on a video monitor…it’s that square pixel (computer) vs. rectangular pixel (video) issue. Try exporting a couple of different file types and see what looks best. Good luck!

I think you need ‘Flip4Mac’ to export from Quicktime to WMV. It’s a pretty cheap, downloadable plug in for QT.

never heard this one….usually fcp doesn’t drop the clip until you release the mouse. There’s also an arrow you should see under the clip on the timeline to tell fcp how to drop the clip in reference to other clips that might already be on your timeline.
Alternately, you can drag the clip to your sequence window…and get some options on where and how to insert the clip in the timeline. Try that?

I’d try capturing the audio by itself, as a separate capture, then striping it to the video. Depending on the length of your sequence, you may have to do it in 3 to 5 minute intervals to avoid any lag.
Some cameras, especially ones that shoot miniDV, have these sync issues sometimes. DVCAM has locked audio, and is usually pretty foolproof about sync issues.

depends if you want to letterbox it, crop it or squish it i would think? If all of the action is with the 4 x 3 ratio you could do a QT export with crop settings. I don’t mind the letterbox myself, to preserve the 16 x 9….people seemed impressed by widescreen, even with the letterboxing. Have a good show!

affecting text with the FCP interface doesn’t always look great, especially changing scale and other elements over time. I’d suggest using another text tool app and bringing it into FCP. Good luck.

I’d try capturing at 16 x 9 anamorphic, but also adjust your sequence settings to the same. Keep it 16 x 9 the whole way if that’s the native frame size. Good luck
