  • video gets out of sync when exporting or doing final render

I’m editing miniDV footage in a SD timeline –

This is someone else’s footage. When I captured it, the audio was slower than the video. I had to speed it up to 104% to get it close to sync. I’m not sure what the problem was… but here’s the real issue:

I edited the project and it looks good in the timeline, but every time I export it or do a final render, the video is out of sync. I’ve tried exporting just audio and just video. The audio doesn’t slip, but the video does. I am trying to find a work around to be done with this project. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Andy

I’d try capturing the audio by itself, as a separate capture, then striping it to the video. Depending on the length of your sequence, you may have to do it in 3 to 5 minute intervals to avoid any lag.

Some cameras, especially ones that shoot miniDV, have these sync issues sometimes. DVCAM has locked audio, and is usually pretty foolproof about sync issues.

    Good luck!

i should have done that before… but i thought i was clever in speeding up the audio… now it’s fine, except upon the final render… is there any solution at this point? if i render just the video, it still slips… it literally shifts by about 10-15 frames.

I’ve seen sync problems when video is shot accidentally in LP instead of SP. Do you know how it was shot? Is it in sync on tape during playback? I’m wondering if it’s worth recapturing.

thanks for your help! i went ahead and recaptured. it’s funny – when you’ve already completed an edit, it seems like it’ll be so painful to start over, but alas, i recaptured and edited it again… it always goes much better the 2nd time! thanks again. love the creative cow!
