Hi guys

I’m happy to find this thread right before I wanted to create my own one about quite the same problem.

This is my task:
I have greenscreen footage in 1440*1080 (50i PAL) with a still camera and one actor making small but fast movements. It’s shot with 1/250 shutter speed and I’m asking myself now if I should deinterlace it before keying?

I exported the clip as a Quicktime including PNGs with 1920*1080 Pixels and upper field first and imported it into AE.

I could use Revision FieldsKit aswell as Twixtor but I’m not that familiar with these plugins as I should be.

I used the technique described in this Creative Cow Article https://library.creativecow.net/articles/solorio_marco/twixtor_review.php

But my problem is already in the Fieldskit Deinterlacing part:
I’ve done everything like in the article (including interpret the footage as interlace: off) but the pixels which are NOT included in the motion mask have really subtle and thin scanlines which only go away when I disable the motion mask.

So what’s your opinion about it?
As chris said I’ll try to key it first and then deinterlace but still I would like to know what I’m doing wrong or just how to deinterlace the stuff in the best possible way with these plugins?

If you search the forum for “house” you’ll find enough threads discussing it.

The title sequence was made by Digital Kitchen https://www.d-kitchen.com and they used a bit 3D in there, but if you are familiar with Particular you could create most of it in After Effects.
I recently tried to create the animated veins and it worked with Particular.
The rest is some clever blending and compositing.

Just use the search bar.

Well, I would just keyframe the masks. You don’t even need to keyframe every frame. Use feather on the mask and adjust the color of he clips using curves since there are differences in brightness.
The masks can be rough, I don’t see a problem there.

There is no better option, you could try the difference matte (under Effects -> Keying -> Difference Matte) and use your self-made clean plate but it won’t work because it’s video footage and so there’s grain.

Mac’s Photobooth software uses a very aggressive difference matte keying, which would end up with holes and harsh outlines in After Effects.

Hmm…you could make a clean plate by choosing the best frame (probably one, where she’s covering least of the window with her shoulder), export it as a psd and then retouch it in photoshop.

Or, if the background (the trees) is not important, try to find a nice background (photo stock sites – or just go out with your camera and shoot a picture of some trees), color correct it so it looks just the same (important for the blue spill around the candles and the hair), then mask the original trees out (not the candles) and replace it.
If you color correct it good it could work…because the background is not changing or moving.

I plan to put some parts of it into my showreel, but don’t have confirmation yet from the production company and the ad agency.

The LED Wall (with 3 HD Screen in the middle) was about 280 feet (93 metres) long and and had a ramp going down from the middle screen and forward about 12 metres. It was made into a catwalk for some models.

You can’t see the ramp in the crappy youtube video. And I can’t find photos of it. I know I had some.
But I got the correct numbers now: Without the ramp in the middle it was 22368*3341 Pixel but with the ramp it went above 22368*8000 Pixel

Most of our machines in the farm were not able to render it.

Well, last year I worked on a 32xxx*2xxx big composition (can’t remember the exact size), it was for a automobile-fair for a german car manufacturer and I was told it was not the biggest for the company till that time…so, yeah, I think there are bigger one’s. It’s already common for the fairs because of the long LED walls they like to use.

Good luck with the rendering…you have to tweak the settings long time before it renders fine 😉

This are film footage dropouts, the frames on a film roll where the cutter wrote some text on it or which were not developed correctly. You can try to find some old film footage, 8mm, 16mm, 35mm, doesn’t matter and project it with a strong beamer on a wall and capture it. Then just place it over your footage with the Screen or Add blend mode.

Or you just take some typo, fill it with a strong magenta or cyan color and animate it over your video, and composite with the Add blend mode.

I would prefer the realistic film footage thou, because you also get the dust & the scratches.

The download works for me.
It looks more like “wobbling” I think.

I’m not sure, but how did you track the footage? Plane tracker (2 tracking points) or the Corner Pin tracker (4 tracking points)?
If you tracked it with 4 tracking points, track it again with just the standard or transform tracking.

I’m not sure if this was already possible in v7 but try to click on the (top-left) frame-counter in your timeline panel but hold down the ALT button while doing so. Might need to click more than once until it changes to seconds.
Alternatively you can go into the project settings (File -> Project Settings).
