This is not possible with Auto-Trace, because it’s meant to trace the outlines of an object.

In your case I would just paint the mask on my own. It’s 2 clicks to draw the mask and it’s more than two clicks to apply the tracing to the layer and testing around. You could have done it by now 😉

    Cheers

kind of rustle, or shall I say flickering deformation, which is very annoying and very not professional looking.

Hmm, this reminds me of the artifacts which can appear when Pixel Motion is enabled. Did you applied some time remapping on the layers and turned Pixel Motion on?

    Just my 2 cents.

May 10, 2009 at 5:27 pm in reply to: best green screen color

I would say B is better. Dave LaRonde once made a comment about keylight and which shades of green it likes most and he said that a darker green like in “B” should be better when using kelight.

After my tests I agree with him. Which means don’t go over 60 IRE

  • Definately he should. 🙂

Here’s an blog article on dearadobe.com discussing (nearly) the same topic:

There is no such option, although I really would like to have it too 😉

But you can either put all the precomps you want to have in a folder in a second pre-comp and turn on the continuous rasterization (a pre-comp IS a folder if you look at it that way) or you could turn on the shy layer switch and just make them invisible for the time you need.

Thank you guys, I was sure that it’s possible somehow but just couldn’t get the trick.

    Thank you!

    – Make sure you don’t have any masks applied to the picture which could be that big.
    – Did you scaled the picture up in the comp?
    – Which effects are applied on the big picture?
    – Do you have any solids/vectors in the comp which you scaled up with continuous rasterization?
    – Did you restart After Effects (can help sometimes)
    – Adjust your RAM-Usage

Usually 2504×3468 should be no problem for AE

My guess would be some masks.
I once made the same mistake by applying a huge mask to a picture to feather it out extremly and it caused the same error.

April 29, 2009 at 8:11 pm in reply to: De-Interlace to help keying

    Thanks Dave.

Well in keying HDV I became quite good during my years in study where we just had poor HDV/DV cams. 🙂
The keying itself is not the problem.
I’m asking for deinterlacing because I know that the footage will be composited and retouched massively in AE after it and I wondered if I should deinterlace it with a better plugin like FieldsKit/Twixtor instead of the AE deinterlace to have the best 25p as possible, because that’s what I need to render out (25p).

But like I said, the Fieldkit Workflow somehow is not working for me, sadly….

Well Chris, thanks a lot. Like I said it’s just my task to do so 🙂

I used Fieldskit but like I said I got this weird scanlines in the non-motion mask parts.

In terms of keying here in the company I use Keylight together with Red Giant Composite Wizard’s Deartifacter. I think it does the same thing as primatte in terms of deartifacting and I’m going pretty well with this combination. Or is the primatte deartifacter really better?
