  • Question on Auto-tracing

I have a brush stroke that I’d like to auto trace, my issue however is that auto trace always seems to only make a ‘full circle’. So if i have a horizontal line….it will go all around it, however, what I need is a single non-complete mask. Meaning, a point at the bottom of the horizontal line and a point on top rather then one on each corner. Is it possible to do that?

Reason I ask is because I have complicated brush strokes i’d like to auto trace but i *need* a single line through the entire stroke rather then the stroke ‘around’ the whole thing. I’m applying 3d stroke from trapcode on these lines and animating the ‘start’ to ‘end’ stroking, but it looks bad because it has to stroke AROUND the objects rather then ‘through’ them…

I’m certain I could have done a better job explaining but hopefully its still understandable….

    many thanks in advance

This is not possible with Auto-Trace, because it’s meant to trace the outlines of an object.

In your case I would just paint the mask on my own. It’s 2 clicks to draw the mask and it’s more than two clicks to apply the tracing to the layer and testing around. You could have done it by now 😉

    Cheers

I know it would have been faster to draw the mask for a rectangle….but I just used that as an example, unfortunately I have far more complicated shapes, and a ton of them.
