The funny thing is I wished that Apple put as much effort into FCP than what they do for iMovie. I guess I should be careful for what I wish for. Actually iMove does some pretty cool stuff already. However I don’t believe iMovie is anywhere near FCPX as far as functionality. I like what I see so far.

My prediction is Compressor sticks around to purchase separately for $99. Not sure about the others.

I know there’s a lot of talk about how you can’t add Thunderbolt, however from what I’ve read on Intel’s site and have read from several tech sites is that it’s not necessarily out of the question. From what I’ve read is that it more than likely would have to be run through the graphics card. Similary to the dislpay port.

To my understanding you can install 2 cards in 1 Mac Pro is this correct? If so can you capture 2 feeds if you have 2 cards installed with VTR Exchange?

Although it would be better and easier to have a larger monitor, you need to click the third oval at the top of the “Viewer” and choose “Multiclip 16-up” either that or change your viewing % to fit to screen.

This might make the Mac Mini worth looking at for sever applications now. Still doesn’t fully replace an Xserve but you could get 3-4 Mac Minis into a cluster for the price of 1 Mac Pro.

Why is that? Because so many people that ask the Basic Questions use 1 RU servers with FCP? Active Storage is offering a replacement to Xserve which more advance users tend to use.

I agree, I don’t like them being discontinued. At least come up with something better than a mac-mini sever and something smaller than the Mac Pro. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a mac mini server come out with the new light speed technology as a replacement however. This would solve most issues for Mac Mini’s and iMacs alike and is probably the reason we see a lack of support for USB3 from Apple at this time. Lightspeed is suppose to be introduced early next year.

Actually from what I’ve read, you can run FCP 7 on G5s, but you need an installer called Pacifier to do it. I’ve read several blogs about doing this without hiccups. ProRes may lack in performance since it’s geared for Intel but from what I’ve heard it works. If you check the code it’s still Universal Binary which means it should still work.
