I think you are misunderstanding how FCP manages the media. After you select your capture disk/location, FCP will create a # of folders, one being capture scratch. All the media you capture will be added to the capture scratch folder, in its own subfolder that will have the same name as your project. Whenever you reopen said project, it will look for the media in that location, even if you’ve change the location of your scratch disk. However, if you have changed the scratch disk location between times that you’ve worked on the project, any subsequent footage you capture will be saved to the new location.
If you are using multiple hard drives (not a RAID) as your scratch disk, you’re media may be captured to both drives seemingly arbitrarily. FCP will save each clip to the disk that at the moment has the most available space. For this reason you have the ability to allocate which disk you want to save media to, which for render files, etc.

my guess is you’re probably animating the the text with the motion tab. try keyframing the position in the control tab. That way, the layer, and thus the matte, stay in one place, but the text moves how you want.

forget FCP garbage mattes for this (and most applications)…they’re too limited.

to ensure you can play virtually any video file format ever concieved, do yourself a favor and install VLC player and Perian. They’re both free, and you should never have an issue previewing your vids again.

I just read an article today saying the 15″ and 13″ models (and possibly the Air, don’t remember) had their i/o speed deliberately crippled to 1.5 GB (as opposed to the 3 GB that the hardware, and previous models were capable of). No comment from Apple on the reason. No mention that the 17″ model has that limitation, so if you’re using the sata port and attach other multiple peripherals, you probably want to go with the bigger size. Plus you get the express card slot!

I agree, the audio transition control could be beefed up a bit. In your case, use the slip tool to align the transition to your liking….hit S once is the keystroke you’re looking for.

I’m positive it’s a limitation of the software…so I was off by a few seconds. Seems that it is 30 seconds or half your export time….which ever is less.
Seriously though, if you need to encode in wmv, you have 2 options. Upgrade your flip4mac to at least studio level ($49, but only lets you use preset paramaters. More control equals more money. It’s the one I use on my Mac), or export a quicktime, take it to a PC, and encode there with a program that can do it…there’s plenty of free ones out there, though I personally use After Effects….already had the program, takes just a couple seconds to setup, and it does a REALLY good job. Very good quality :30 vids at about 2MB.
