I’ve never noticed this before, but then I really never use this transition. I’m dropping the Spinback 3D b/w two pieces of text, and instead of spinning on the center axis, the text shifts to the left as it spins out of existance…and the incoming text does the same, shifted to the left as it spins in, to settle into place in the correct spot. I want text 1 to spin on the center axis with no move left or right….multiple spins would be great, but probably need to head to motion for that. The piece is finished and approved as is, but this is really annoying me.

manually keyframing with Basic 3d has the same results.

    Thoughts or suggestions?

Maybe try a Cube Spin instead?

Spinback 3D is not a transition for text.

This is due to issues of parallel projection and Apple’s predefined 30° angle of view setting in the Spinback3D transition code. You just need to set this to an alternate value to achieve the effect you’re looking for … you can right click the Spinback3D transition and choose Open in Editor, then look for the code line angleofview = 30; and change it to angleofview = 0.0001; … then change the second line from top where it says transition “Spinback3D” to transition “My Spinback3D” … now, from the FxBuilder window choose Create Plugin… and save it to your Desktop. Finally, drop the new plugin into your /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins folder and then restart FCP. Your new plug should work as you want it to.
You could also just download and install my free “Andy’s Flipper” plugin from my web page which is a simple hack of the Spinback3D plugin and includes a perspective control, multiple spins and the (default) option to spin through rather than spin back
