Does it sound like high volume white noise. If the ac3’s not decoding thats what it sounds like. So you may have an ac3 encoded track thats just not decoding properly. I’ve heard that there are issues with passing dd encoded files through frame converters and such though.

When i need to legalize video i just use the RGB limit filter in FCP6/color correction. if you set the upper limits (chroma/lum)to 100 and lower to 0, this will only allow the legal broadcast gamut. I’ve never really liked the broadcast safe filter, at times its not aggressive enough and still leaves you with unwanted levels. The RGB limit literally kills all illegal broadcast levels that you would not see at broadcast anyways and keep’s the TV station trolls off your back…

which codec? 10bit 422 ? You can export a Travel Matte as a seperate file or use the Animation Codec which is a lossless Codec and handles Alpha channels just fine.

7.5 setup is for composite video only, there really is no setup on digital tape and yrb component video. Just check your RGB levels in your scope in FCP. O (0mv) is black (in composite it becomes 7.5ire)and 100 (700mv) is your max white across all 3 RGB channels. If you keep your levels between 0-100 RGB then you are within legal broadcast gamut..

I havent had really any issuse with BlackMagics 50i and 25psf’s its all the same attitude. Are you sure the capture is bad, check your viewing prefs? I guess theoretically 50i and 25psf are the same but 50i can have different video on f1 than f2 whereas 25psf cant(or shouldnt). Try and capture to 50i and see if the motion is better. Sounds like the video might be interlaced but you are forcing a psf capture..

hmmm. some older patchbays are not rated for sdi video or maybe its the patch cord or coax or the combination of all that. do you have a way to measure jitter in the sdi signal? the signal might just be degraded..

probably.. qt for pc doesn’t offer certain video codecs like what i found in my case, DVCproHD.

yep the sd card will only make sd video. is there a firewire output on your dvcpro hd deck?

if you take a 720p59 file in FCP and select it so that it appears in the viewer, step forward with your -> and watch the Time code of the file, you’ll notice that the TC counter moves every second time you hit the -> key, thats it you can trim the file to literally 59.94 fps because there are no feilds. obviously 1080i really has feilds and 2 are required for a frame.

you can also do your subtitles in DVDSP, then you can turn them on or off on the DVD..
