    Hi
I tried capturing 5.1 Dolby Digital audio with DeckLink HD Extreme. Connection used was AES from a Dolby DP-569 AC3 encoder.
I used Premiere Pro 2.0 and checked 5.1 audio capture.
Also verified in Control Panel that audio input is set to AES.
I got an AVI with a 5.1 channel track that just plays a loud crackling sound.

Anyone has experience with this, or ideas?

    thanks

Does it sound like high volume white noise. If the ac3’s not decoding thats what it sounds like. So you may have an ac3 encoded track thats just not decoding properly. I’ve heard that there are issues with passing dd encoded files through frame converters and such though.

    wheres blackmagic on this one??

    Thanks for your reply, Del.

I guess you could call it white noise, but I’m not sure. It sounds like a machine gun. A rapid series of pops.
I tried playing it through various AC3 decoders, like AC3filter and ffdshow, which play other AC3 tracks great, without success.

I’m still not sure if those pops are now permanently in the captured file, or there’s still some way to decode it properly.
Maybe I had to decode the AC3 stream, as it was being captured. For that I would need to build a special DirectShow graph with AC3 decoding.

dd if you listen to it without decode is just horrible white noise at near 0db (digital). I would wonder if the BM hardware is corrupting the stream then.

Blackmagic again, whats your stance. Unfortunatley it seems when they don’t have an answer they simply ignore the problem..?
