you can use bcc continuum’s page curl too if you have the means to buy it(it’s a great package btw but quite expensive), they have a trial version i believe.

i think plugin galaxy had it too, not sure if it’s still compatible with 6.5 though, havent used it in eons.

i dont remember seeing the page curl effect in the pro version default filters, but maybe i missed it.

there might be some other plugins to do it too… but dont remember any.

btw, i think some photoshop plugins could be used in afx(other than the ones from the “effect” menu), havent tried though, so maybe…

That’s it, hope you find out a way to do it,

using a glow with the correct parametres will produce a stroke too if you dont wanna use a mask, else there was a plugin for puffin lounge i think, called border patrol.
Other than that you can also try duplicating the layer, blur it from an amount equal to your outline radius, boost up alpha levels, and set a tint to the color you want, and then have this layer behind the original one, a bit dirty but works pretty well.(it’s basically what glows does, but allows for more tweaking)

in case anyone wants to know
i found out a rather good way of doing it

    -Adjustement Layer
->Levels, with adjustement to get back to the full range
-Layer of picture 1 – opacity 100% – difference mode
    ->arithmetics, multiply, red=green=blue, value=alpha
-Layer of merged Stuff – opacity 100% – normal mode

That composition gives excellent results, so that’s it

well basically it’s just an alpha overlay in “normal mode”
    pic1(opacity=1.00(or 100%))+pic2(opacity=c, on top of pic1)=pic3(opacity=100)

the values of pixel on pic3 are calculated through an average since it’s linear
so pic3’s pixels value are as in the formula i gave(unless i’m hallucinating)

July 10, 2005 at 2:44 pm in reply to: Help me i need to create Gold moving text

i assume you mean gold looking text that morphs&move ?

If so, you’ll need to animate your text layer in black&white first… then you can apply a gold look effect using the bevel&emboss and colors(or like it’s done in the countless “how to do metal aspect in photoshop” tutorials)

If that’s not it, give more precision as of what you want to do

i’d say you need to render only the borders of your object, and make sure you have continuous movement and use echo, the more frames you get mixed, and the smaller they are, the more continous the streak will be. Also if you get irregular stuff in the trail then you might want to blur&alpha back up a lot to get uniform content…
(yeah i know it looks nasty)

render with premultiplied – no alpha => look in the output module in your render queue, you have the paramettres for RGB/RGB+alpha/alpha(you want RGB), and Premultiplied/straight

actually i found out another way
the fact is afx’s illustrator size estimation engine has a fatal flaw, it doesnt count in the strokes often
so if you want to make sure not to get cropped, just expanding the aspect is enough
thanks for the tips anyway(although it’s those i used up to now, but were quite frustrating)
