Josh,
Forgive me for asking the obvious, but that’s the only way I know to troubleshoot:
When you play back your tape in the camera, you can see the video on it’s lcd?
Any chance you recorded in 60i mode by accident?
Any chance you recorded in DV mode by accident?
If you set the iLink Convert to On, can you see the video on your computer when set to a DV easy setup?
You don’t state how you’re connected to your computer….. Firewire? Have you tried a different cable? (I know you mention you have machine control, but I don’t know if the same pins are used for the data stream and other functions.)
You mention that the “AV to DV Out” setting is off, but I don’t know of any such setting on the Z1u. Which menu is that in?

Kimu,
You might try a video truck rental company like All Mobile Video in New York. They have a rental house also, and I know their trucks carry these so maybe you could rent a set.
Another place would be to try local jib owners. It used to be pretty standard equipment before internal jib cabling became more prevalent. I think there’s a page on the Stanton (Jimmy Jib) website where you can look up local owners.
Good luck,

October 1, 2007 at 2:30 pm in reply to: capture with timecode on screen and no scene detaction[alejo yael] “i have to “print” the timecode on screen, i would like to doit direct on capture (whit no render, the case with timecode generator or plug ins, theere are MANY cassettes)”
You can probably use the TC READER filter to play your clips with visible timecode without rendering. Set the sequence RT box to unlimited. I used that last week to play 1080i60 DVC Pro HD from a G4 Powerbook.

August 28, 2007 at 12:52 am in reply to: DVD recorder that records FCP timeline via firewire?Wish I could give good news David, and hopefully someone else can. I had a Coby unit that did what you want just fine, but it was a very unreliable machine. The second time it stopped working I decided to stop throwing good money after bad.
I replaced it with a Toshiba with Firewire, but it won’t recognize the stream coming out of the mac. Direct from a camera, yes. Must be some kind of a flag the camera sends.

[walter biscardi] “Your versions of FCP Studio need to match exactly”
and, in version 5.1x, Apple changed the license to allow loading the program on one tower AND one laptop if you own both machines. You can’t use them concurrently. I don’t know if that was changed in FCS2, and it was not the case with FCP versions before 5.1
Enjoy your new MBP! I’m saving up for one.

Thanks Paul, I had read that. The Promax site actually has a few more operational details if you’re interested. The page linked on that thread lists what’s been on the V3HD website for awhile now.

Could it be as simple as FCP External Video reseting itself to “Off”? I don’t have FCS2, but in FCP 5.x it will do that. Check: View>External Video

I think it would be helpful to tell us what video formats you’re using and might be using in the next five years. That’s a very very long time in both the computer and video worlds.
The mini and the iMac will limit how you can ingest material, how you can output your product, and what kinds of drive interfaces you can use.

From a Sony rep on the Sony CineAlta HD forum:
“The next version of XDCAM transfer (targeted for October release) will allow you to rename clips.

Bryan,
Take a look at CatDV Pro from Square Box software:
https://www.squarebox.co.uk/professional.html
Not only will it do what you’ve listed, it also can create very small preview files of your clips. This not only has allowed me to keep many many hours of doc footage on my laptop for on the road viewing and logging, but also allows you to keep footage from old project available when you’ve cleared the real media off of your drives. That way you can view footage from old projects to see if it will do in a current project, albeit as a small clip. Good xml support to and from FCP as well.
May I also suggest you do a COW search for logging software, as this question comes up all the time. There are some interesting threads about it, with lots of good points about the various strengths and weaknesses of the products out there.

David
