Hi I am having an issue with importing footage shot 1080i 50 into FCP 5.0.4. I can control the deck fine, but there is just a grey screen in the log and capture window. My FCP project is set using easy setup HDV- 1080i 50.

    The camera settings are:

    VCR- HDV
    iLink- Off
    Component- 1080i/576i
    AV to DV out- Off

Can anyone help me with this issue. I have restarted a bunch, both the camera, computer(Macbook Pro), and FCP. Nothing seems to work.

    Josh,

Forgive me for asking the obvious, but that’s the only way I know to troubleshoot:

When you play back your tape in the camera, you can see the video on it’s lcd?

Any chance you recorded in 60i mode by accident?

Any chance you recorded in DV mode by accident?

If you set the iLink Convert to On, can you see the video on your computer when set to a DV easy setup?

You don’t state how you’re connected to your computer….. Firewire? Have you tried a different cable? (I know you mention you have machine control, but I don’t know if the same pins are used for the data stream and other functions.)

You mention that the “AV to DV Out” setting is off, but I don’t know of any such setting on the Z1u. Which menu is that in?

    Regards,
    David
