Think of this setting not as your preview format, but rather as your “final mastering codec.”
So, if someone asked you, “Harry, if you wanted to save your timeline to the best codec possible for archiving, reediting, or repurposing five years from now, what’s the proper codec of choice?”
Personally, I would say that Pro Res 422 or Avid DNXHD 135 are pretty decent choices.
Does this make sense?

“Not that I know of… I’m not sure your odds are very high for getting useful assistance from BM Support, but you should try. However, if I were you, I’d post that black clip issue on the Resolve forum as a new thread.

Hi Bob,
Of course Cuda isn’t there, you have install the Cuda driver manually. So, all your experience tells us is that your previous installation had issues, and that you don’t have those issues now, but it’s impossible to infer anything else.
Now, if you were to clone the working boot drive, then try installing the latest Nvidia drivers and the Cuda driver, the results would be much more useful to all.

Beware Simon, the enclosure at the link you provided is JBOD only – the one below that on the Areca site is their similar 8-bay enclosure built for a RAID array, which is the one you really need.
FYI, I’m now consulting with a number of different resellers, and I can get you many storage products at a great price lower than any you can find online.

I have a different take entirely Tim. I think this is all about the New England Patriots, Tom Brady, and “deflategate.” Who’d wanna hang in a state that supports Superbowl cheaters, when you can get a huge tax incentive, and choose from a wide array of good NFL teams who play by the rules?

However, I can promise you, $5000 will not suffice, that will actually only cover the dual Xeon procs – you’ll need more ammo for a powerful and reliable workstation, but I’ll need to ask you a load of workflow questions to pinpoint precisely what to recommend.

Well, while I have not been using my system for more than basic editing lately, it certainly seems to be functioning without any of the issues I keep reading about here, and that’s on both Mavericks and Yosemite, with a GTX 680 Mac Edition and Cuda.
As I stated, I rebuilt from the ground up, in each case installing fresh downloads of the OS, updating those until I got the up to date message, then installing the latest Nvidia drivers and Cuda driver. Once everything was running perfectly, I then installed Adobe CC 2015, and it all seems happy as a clam.
I’ll check audio track muting and soloing later today to see if those seem buggy, and I’ll report back with the results. What else would you like me to check?

I wrote a message to you in that other long thread by mistake, meaning to put it here, but…
Meanwhile, I wanted to chime in here about Premiere on Windows vs Macs, as I was working for s reseller the last three years, who are well-known for their very powerful Windows workstations.
What I can tell you is this, there is no doubt about it, the cross platform NLEs, Adobe and Avid, can absolutely run circles around the same apps on a Mac, if you have the proper components, and if you know what you’re doing.It’s simple, the Mac Pros all have but a single Xeon processor, while all of the higher end Windows workstations have two of the same Xeon procs. That’s the most fundamental difference, the ability to upgrade GPUs to the latest and greatest (including multiples) provides another huge advantage.
And, I can also share that the Mac users I converted to Windows ALL said that Adobe and Avid simply ran better on those Windows machines than they ever did on any Mac. That being said, you guys all should be aware that Windows machines are considerably harder to configure and maintain than Macs, so I do recommend purchasing turnkey systems from a reseller who knows the demands of video inside and out.

Have any of your attempts to rebuild your edit station(s) been total ground up reinstalls of everything, from the OS to the Nvidia drivers and Cuda first, then adding Adobe apps?
