DVD video can’t deliver HD period, forget about “true HD” whatever that means. DVDs are all SD, either widescreen or 4×3. If you truly need HD, BluRays are your ticket.

Remove the 2nd monitor completely and see if you can make the software stabile, but I seriously doubt that’s the issue. If the 2nd monitor is not the issue, come back and give us more info, including:
OS version & how it was installed (update vs clean)
Adobe install (clean vs along with CC 2014)
GPU driver version (update vs clean install)
Cuda driver version (update vs clean install)

RED RAW comes in many different “flavors” and pixel dimensions depending on the camera and age of that camera, and we have no idea what the issues are on your end because you didn’t really describe the problem precisely or tell us what the sequence settings are that automatically set when you match the clips. However, I suspect your problem is that Premiere is creating a widescreen (not 16×9) sequence, which may not be properly interpreted and displayed on your 16×9 monitor. If that is the case, one way to deal with the problem would be to, as you mentioned above, create a 1920×1080 sequence that will letterbox the full frame on a 16×9 monitor.

Most issues like the one you’re describing don’t simply transpire out of the clear blue sky. When did this first happen, and did you change or update anything before you began having these issues?

Wow!!! That’s interesting stuff Oliver… It’s way beyond my pay grade however… What badness does the hex-core CPU configuration mean for those using resolve???

I don’t think Brian is saying that X is not professional software, he’s suggesting that, because it’s not cross platform, that it’s limited by the Mac hardware on which it must run.

I think you’re both correct, however, having been on both the creative side and the sales side, I have found the following two questions really cover most bases for ALL users:
1) How good is good enough?
2) Do you have more time than money, or more money than time?
For example, one of my friends here is quite happy to do his work in Premiere while viewing at 1/4 resolution, and he’s not very concerned about render times. He typically does not work under client supervision, and so he’s happy to save money by not chasing hardware solutions that would give him better realtime performance and faster render times. He has more time than money, and he has decided his older Mac is good enough.
Another friend has very demanding clients who sit in on every session, paying big bucks, and they need to see everything at 100% rez, and they hate to wait for renders – so he requires a very beefy workstation capable of realtime performance with virtually any codec, including 5K Red RAW. To him, spending money on the right solution was essential, as he does not have the luxury of time – a powerful dual Xeon Windows workstation with a beefy 8-drive RAID and two powerful Titan GPUs was right for him, as no Mac on the planet can match that kind of performance.

What type of hard drive is not recognized? Do you really want to mess with a working system just because of a hard drive issue when there are many hard drives you could get that would simply be plug & play?
