XAVCi is simply the absolute worst codec to deal with in Premiere that there is right now. It simply had not yet gone through the process of getting optimized by the development team yet, and until it does, transcoding to ProRes 422 for HD, or HQ for 4K, is really the very best solution for now.

FYI, the Abobe development team are very much aware of the issue, but just have not yet gotten around to it yet. If you send a note to their bug fix address maybe you’ll be the one who moves XAVCi to the top of their fix-it list.

For the record, when I worked for a reseller in recent years, I had to set up many of my customers with Adobe CC subscriptions, and though I am a big fan of Adobe, I can attest to the fact that everyone has just as many issues dealing with all the CC subscription crap as users do, and hardly any if them can keep up with the rules and regulations. So, it’s no surprise to me that each and every one of you here who contacts Adobe will hear different things and get different remedies.

I didn’t see the actual price listed anywhere, I just called and said I was unhappy, because I’d been told the discount was being ended “permanently” when I bought earlier at the full price. Given that Adobe is so large, and given that all of those answering the phones are in Mumbiai, it may just be that not all their people have gotten the word yet. But, I do know there is a Black Monday “skew” in there database that allows then to renew your subscription for a full year at the $29.99 price, it doesn’t just change the price for the remainder of your current subscription period.

It’s a pain, but keep calling until you find a person who knows the deal, or demand to talk to a supervisor.

That’s the way it works by default.

You probably have the “gang” function enabled. See Alex Udell’s explanation below…

[Alex Udell] “PPro has “Gang” function in which the source viewer and sequence can be made to stay in sync. so that can keep you in sync. In your editing (program) timeline, the first icon can be toggled so that when you are editing from a source sequence (loaded into the source viewer) it can edit it as a nest or it will retrieve the actual underlying source clip in the nest. Depending on some other decisions you make above….you may want to toggle this one way or another. “

Sorry Curt, but you and your boss seem to have a misunderstanding of the Match frame command – in both FCP 7 and Premiere it is absolutely designed to match the current frame in your timeline with the same frame in the original source clip, and that of course shows in the source monitor.

How could you, or why would you, match to the frame in your program monitor if your cursor is already parked on that frame?

Just so you know, XAVCi is a bear… It has not been optimized in Adobe Premiere, and it suffers from horrendously poor playback performance. I’m certain you’re seeing the same thing in Resolve. Transcoding to a high performance codec, such as ProRes 422 or HQ is unfortunately the best workaround.
