The developers are aware of the issues, which I understand are shared by those using Resolve. So, hopefully there will be a fix on its way sooner rather than later.
Meanwhile, I’m going to try rewrapping using EditReady, and I’ll report the results here afterward.

Stick with Yosemite… I’ve tried El Capitan and there’s just nothing about it that’s so wonderful that anyone should feel compelled to update to it from a perfectly working NLE.

Yes Bobby! The way SSDs are rated is by the number of terabytes of data that can be moved on and off the drive before performance begins to degrade. As I mentioned earlier, using a drive as a boot drive does not degrade the drive as quickly as using it as a media drive, because you’re not constantly moving huge files on and off the drive, as you do with media drives.
In addition, SSDs are also rated according to the amount of “over-provisioning” that drive comes with from the factory. Over-provisioning is the number of extra gigabytes you get when you buy, as data is constantly being moved from bad or failing cells on the SSD is constantly being moved to fresh cells. Better SSDs can come with many gigabytes of extra cells, thus extending the life of the drive. However, because they still get so much more than spinning disks the best SSDs are not cost efficient for use as media drives, because they lose performance too quickly.

You need a RAID Michael. The rule of thumb is, every time you double the number of drives in a RAID array you double the throughput. A single spinning disk is only theoretically capable of approx 100MB/sec – nine streams of ProRes running at 21MB/sec each exceeds that limitation by a factor of almost 2X, do it makes no difference what your connection speed is. So, a 2-drive RAID is the bare minimum required.
FYI, while an SSD drive would have enough throughout, SSDs are not really great as media drives, as moving huge amounts if data in and off an SSD drive will fairly quickly ruin the drive’s performance. SSDs are better suited for use as boot drives, because starting apps and storing document files does not move that data on and off the drive as is the case with media drives.

The issue is not about installing the software on a computer in use by an American in El Salvador, it’s registering that software purchase to a person in El Salvador that’s probably in violation of either a law or Adobe’s territory.
If you buy the license in Vermont and install it on your machine first, I’m 99% certain she can install it on her computer, cuz you are allowed to install on two computers. You should be able to test this by setting up a new account for her and installing the free 30-day demo, though you’d have to do that from your computer in Vermont, with your account disabled, or from one that’s not associated with an Adibe account.

Whether the field order became reversed o can’t say without examining the material, but what I can tell you without looking is that you cannot judge ANYTHING about fields on a computer monitor, you can only gauge proper field order by displaying on a true video monitor with the signal output from an I/O card or device. Most interlaced video is routinely deinterlaced for when encoded for the web because computer displays cannot properly display fields.
You will need to track back to the original footage to see if it was ALL translated properly when imported by the original editor(s), and you really must do that using a real video monitor to make certain. In a documentary with many different sources, this is time consuming, but must be done on a shot by shot basis.

You’re just fine selecting “custom” in the seq settings… That whole preset thing is a bit wonkier than it should be at this point anyway, hence the fact that Premiere defaults to the I-Frame MPEG Video Preview setting, which should be interpreted as a warning to all that the particular preset chosen has really NOT been fully configured.

Okay Brett, it was good you supplied that info, because as I suspected you have a few things set improperly that are impacting your system performance, and may be the source of your issues.
1) In System Settings, make the following changes:
a) change Pixel Aspect Ratio from HD Anamorphic to Square
b) change Fields from Upper Field First to None
c) change Preview File Format from I-Frame Only MPEG to QT
d) change Codec from MPEG-I Frame to ProRes 422That should do the trick for starters, unless you somehow transcoded your camera original improperly. thus creating interlaced anamorphic video files. (***For future reference, ALL DLSRs shoot progressive (non-interlaced) frames, so whenever you fields stating upper or lower you should know immediately that you went wrong somewhere.)
And, almost all modern cameras shoot square pixels these days, anamorphic was a trick for producing HD at lower bitrates in the days before computers became as powerful as they are now, and before hard drives got as cheap as they are now.
And that last part is the perfect segue into my last bit of wisdom, which is to tell you that RAID 1 is a total waste of money and performance for those editing video. You are using your most expensive storage, chucking out half the capacity and half the performance in the name of security. You’d do much better to configure that RAID at RAID 0, which will double its performance, because every time you double the number of disks in a RAID array you double its performance. Of course, your media will be vulnerable, and you’ll need to back it up, but you can get a large bare drive (4Tb $150) and a hard drive dock ($29) for very inexpensive backup, instead of wasting the performance and capacity of the RAID, which you paid for.

Brett, unless you want us to make random guesses, you’ll have to give us some specifics you left out…
1) what is the camera original you’re trying to edit? (Codec, pixel dimensions, frame rate)
2) what are your sequence settings? (a screen grab would be best)
3) what type of media drive(s) or RAID are you using for video storage?
You always need to provide this info in the future, otherwise it forces us to ask, which is totally inefficient. Okay?
