Intermediate formats least CPU overhead?
I’m stuck editing on Core2Duo 2.26Ghz 8GB machines for awhile. No GPU assist. My footage is studio shot 60i 1080, none-to-very minimal color correction. Two extra video tracks for lower thirds. Streamlined workflow here. The 17Mbps AVCHD files are choking PPCC.
What can I transcode these into for editing? I have lots of external storage, so…

Well, since you didn’t mention if you’re working on a Windows machine or a Mac, that requires two answers.
1) Mac – ProRes 422
