If your subject moves at all while chatting to camera you’re going to have a tough time, as you’ll probably be rotoscoping, or fixing a zillion keyframes on a frame by frame basis. Adobe has an automated plugin for rotoscoping, but it doesn’t work perfectly, meaning you’d still have to fix many of its mistakes on a frame by frame basis. Shooting with a soft background is NOT one of those things best fixed in post.

I have always liked Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper is just as good, may have more features, but is also a tad more complicated because of those features.

Time machine is also very good for backing up media drives, but I’m not so enthused with it for backing up system drives, as my experience with it was not so good when trying to restore editing apps – it might be better now, but I haven’t tested it or trusted it in many years.

Why not use Time Machine, Carbon Copy Cloner, or Super Duper? The first is free with iOS, the other two are “freeware.” All of them have one form or another of automated incremental backup.

You chose an anamorphic format that should have a check box allowing you to toggle anamorphic on or off, you want it off.

However, you seem to be looking at proxies in the wrong way… You’d probably be far better off using a codec with the same pixel dimensions as your camera original, simply choosing a less demanding resolution and codec. That way, all of your graphics and text will translate appropriately when and if you ever wish to reconfirm using your camera original.

  • If I were you, I would simply do each eye separately, output each, and combine them on the timeline using a soft edge.

  • You’re overlooking the fact that processor speeds and thunderbolt capabilities are not the only thing that’s changed in the last ten years inside Apple computers, bus speed, RAM speeds, etc have all become much faster. The issue you’re facing is that you’re stuck in an Apple-centric environment that has fallen way behind on the hardware front, plus you’ve stuck with ten year old technology too. I’d suspect a moderately beefy new laptop with a thunderbolt 3 raid would run circles around your old cheese grater.

Definitely NOT uncompressed, it creates a huge file that is WAY overkill for what you’re doing. Pro Res 422 is more than adequate.
