This is one of those instances in life where what you’re thinking is very logical, but nonetheless, you need to modify your thought process. And, what I’m gonna say doesn’t just apply to Resolve, you should apply to every video editing, compositing, color app, etc.
I want you to think about what you’re editing on the timeline as your master… And, it should be edited in a timeline with the appropriate sequence settings you’d choose if you were going to create a master that is going to be your best and only copy you’ll ever need. It doesn’t have to your last copy, that’s just so that you’ll get the editing idea that I’m promoting…
I any case, once you’re done editing the timeline with the sequence settings you need for your master, render it, then export a master at the same settings. Now, use that master in any other app you want to create whatever other deliverables you need.
You’ll not lose a generation this way, believe it or not, it’s faster than exporting to a non-matching codec from the timeline, and you can use the master in any app that gives you the settings or codecs you need. Plus, encoding from the master in another app will not tie up Resolve, allowing you to do other work while the encoder does its job in the background.

Oh come now Oliver, don’t tell me that suddenly people on this forum would have an issue with an app because it doesn’t have tracks, because it takes them out of their comfort zone. That would be way too ironic.

Fusion is free… And, its integration with Resolve is pretty awesome I hear.

The biggest problem with the Mac mini is the installed GPU… At least with an iMac you can, and should, upgrade to the highest level GPU Apple installs in the model you’re looking at.
BTW, using your existing monitor as a second monitor with the 27″ iMac is NOT overkill… You will quickly find that Adobe Premiere is much easier to use with lots of real estate. I have three 27″ monitors connected to my older Mac tower, and I love it.
BTW, your older Mac might work just fine if you simply replace the existing GPU with a one of the latest powerful cards, such as a GTX Titan. You’ll need to get one flashed for Mac from https://www.macvidcards.com, because there are no more Mac Edition cards being manufactured any longer.

That’s correct… I tried to add the BM Intensity series to my last post, but I was unable to edit the post. For SDI out you’ll need one the BM UltraStudio series, such as the UltraStudio Express or 4K.

Depends on which MacPro you have… If you have a older tower, then I’d recommend a Decklink Studio 4k or 4K Extreme, depending on your needs. If you have a newer Thunderbolt equipped trashcan MacPro, I’d recommend an Intensity Shuttle for Thunderbolt.

Where did you hear that you could use any hardware except a Blackmagic I/O card or device to display to a broadcast monitor? I ask because it’s fairly common knowledge that their own I/O cards and devices are considered to be like dongles that enable the software.
Keep in mind, DaVinci setup typically cost a quarter of a million bucks until BM bought the company, and now they give the software away. Purchasing a Blackmagic card or device is a very inexpensive gateway to DaVinci, which is the deafacto standard of the industry.

I agree with Jon. Transcoding with MPEG Streamclip is NOT color managed to the best of my knowledge. And, I can’t imagine why you’d use After Effects for transcoding, though in theory it should do the job.
