Don’t sweat it, just download the latest version of the software and try it out. Resolve is very install and uninstall friendly, and it seems to work nicely with just about any version of OS X, though I’d advise El Capitan, simply because it works for Adobe apps and BM apps.

I’m running it was on a 2008 MacPro and it works just fine. Of course, it will give you better realtime performance with more RAM, faster and more recent processors, and a beefy GPU, but don’t sweat that now while you’re learning the app.

Hi John,

What you don’t understand about your workflow is that, as you’re presently doing things, two renders are involved.

The first is when you render the timeline – in that case FCP is rendering every frame and creating ProRes LT render files for every clip, transition, etc.

The second is when you export to h.264 – in that case FCP is rendering every frame and creating h.264 files for every clip, transition etc.

The faster way is to render once, i.e. the entire timeline, then export a self contained “master file” using current settings, which is very fast with NO additional render involved. Then you use that master to encode to h.264 using Compressor or Streamclip.

Make sense???

There are a few things that can cause the issue you’re reporting.

1) turn off ALL energy saving features in System Preferences – you may be experiencing some drives or monitors going to sleep and waking up. (***all NLE manufacturers recommend disabling energy saving features).

2) your Decklink card may be handing off control of your apps slightly differently than before because of changes to the drivers. I had horrible issues with my Decklink card, and I was advised to uninstall the latest drivers and to roll all the way back to version 10.6 (not 10.6.1), which has been working quite nicely for me.

The reviews on Amazon are not great. I’d suggest looking at the hardware from OWC, they specialize in professional Mac-based solutions for our industry, Drobo has always been known as a prosumer solution.

If your media and apps are using the resources of one drive, what do you thnk will happen when you’re pushing the envelope? Easy, your realtime will be compromised, and you will have dropped frames on playback. That’s not going to kill you, but it’s unprofessional, and not very good for client relations.

You do not seem to be aware that there is a huge difference between having an available Thunderbolt connection and getting Thunderbolt performance. If you have only one Thunderbolt bus on your computer and you attach a dock giving you additional thunderbolt ports, you might be able to plug in many additional devices, but they will most likely not be delivering the performance required to deliver realtime video playback, especially if you’re driving a monitor on the same bus.
