Call macvid.com, they are pretty much the only game in years en now, because no one is manufacturing cards for the legacy mac pros any more. Macvid know how to flash PC Cards to work on macs.

Have you loaded the latest drivers for that trackball, or are you relying on the default drivers from the OS? If you have not downloaded and installed the latest drivers that just might be a good thing to try.

That’s a pretty tall order for an online post Sam. You will find Premiere to be very similar to FCP in many ways, including the option to use FCP keyboard commands, how, it will take you a while to learn where things are. And, you should definitely get yourself one of the online tutorials to get started properly, otherwise you will make mistakes that will cost you down the line. Remember, there’s nothing worse in post than fixing mistakes that were easily avoided by simply taking the time to learn the application properly.

Seems to me that this is a perfect case for splitting a project into 30-min reels.
Why don’t you test performance of 30-min reels? The fastest way is to duplicate the sequence, the delete everything after 30, just o se how it plays and saves? If it’s all appreciably better, then you’ll know, and at that point you can take you time to find better spots to break things into reels.

Gotcha! Figured premix was the reason… It does seem illogical that every company supports AAF and XML differently, but it seems standards are a constantly moving target. Since Resolve’s heritage is picture, not sound, if there are weaknesses in the app now that it does virtually everything, it’s only natural that audio might be the weakest link in the development of the product, though it’s probably good enough now for most users.
Meanwhile, thanks for bringing this up, it’s good to know for future reference. And, I hope you find a good solution that will work for your projects.

Francois,
Why do you need any audio mixing/keyframing info when going to Protools? Most sound mixers and sound designers would typically strip all that away or request that you do so before delivering the project to them?

Nope, it was the Decklink drivers – I had to roll back seven versions to 10.6, even though I was using the latest version of the OS, latest version of Premiere, etc.

No firsthand experience, but I can tell you that older PC’s do not support thunderbolt cards, so you can’t just throw a t-bolt card into just any PC you have. And, even if your PC supports t-bolt, you may not be able to find t-bolt drivers for the hardware devices you’re looking to connect. Just make certain of both things before you buy…

Having made one of my many careers in the realm of oceanographic films, one of my most interesting findings was that no one has any idea what underwater images should look like, they only know when something looks like a mistake. And, as others have mentioned, the deeper one goes, the more red is filtered out. The camera’s distance from the subject also has a similar impact.
That being said, you have a bigger issue… I was just trying to color correct your cuddle fish shot, and found there is absolutely zero color information other than cyan. No fact, it’s almost as if this material was shot in B&W, then tinted cyan overall. I suspect you may have a very difficult time making this particular footage look like something other than a mistake… I pride myself on making some of the worst looking stock footage acceptable, but I was unable to use any tricks of the trade to polish your cuddle fish shot. I’ve made many U/W similar shots look great, but those had at least some information on all color channels, why this seems to contain nothing but cyan.
If you or anyone else here have different findings and can make the cuddle fish acceptably realistic, please do share your technique.
