February 22, 2017 at 6:29 pm in reply to: No realtime playback to broadcast monitor: where’s the bottleneck? Are you certain the monitor is capable of displaying your chosen frame rate? If the material is 24p you may have to chose 60i playback through the BM card, if the monitor can’t natively display 24p.

February 22, 2017 at 2:41 pm in reply to: MacBook Pros “underpowered?” Not for FCP X editors. Not AT ALL.But Herb, even if the renders were actually ten times faster, would that boost an editor’s productivity by 10X?
I would say that if the job were only rendering then that might be true, but alas most editors actually edit and do a whole of storytelling.

Not AT ALL.Not so sure your argument is a winning argument Shane – frankly, if Apple can optimize their hardware and software to make the combination work together in a more effective way, that’s just good business.
Meanwhile, Bill’s declaring that faster renders create a 10X increase in productivity is like suggesting that if you drive to the office 10X faster your entire workday will gain a 10X increase in productivity.

February 21, 2017 at 6:29 pm in reply to: The fastest and largest 2,5″ form factor solution (with spinning drives). You didn’t say how you’re connecting your drives, but more importantly, you will never find a single spinning hard drive faster than the 200MB/sec you’ve already found. If you want faster throughout you’ll need a RAID with two or more drives striped together. A good rule of thumb to remember is, every time you double the number of drives in a striped set you effectively double the throughput.

February 21, 2017 at 5:30 pm in reply to: MacBook Pros “underpowered?” Not for FCP X editors. Not AT ALL.Please define “productivity boost” in real terms please, if you can. And, what is the source of the 10X number you mention, and how precisely is that calculation quantified?

If they are mixed there is nothing you can do. You can only affect changes in relative levels if you have split tracks with separate music, separate dialogue, and separate sound effects.

February 19, 2017 at 6:33 pm in reply to: previously rendered sections of timeline going off renderNick is absolutely correct, 7.0 was crap the day it was released. If you don’t update to 7.03 there is really no reason to ask questions here, because no one will be able to help you with the issues you’re having. If you’re afraid to upgrade just clone your system drive to a FireWire or USB hard drive before doing the update using Carbon Copy Cloner. It’s free!!!
