What are your sequence settings? Posting a screen shot would be helpful. FYI, I’m suspecting you’re editing in a 1080i sequence rather than 1080p, so your output is interlaced rather than progessive. But, since your description was not very clear my guess may be inaccurate.

Your post is confusing… You’ve told us what you shot and what you delivered to the colorist, and what you want to export, but what has your colorist delivered to you? Has he delivered a graded master to you that you’re using now for your additional exports? Please connect the dots for us telling us where the colorist fits in to your workflow? You seem to have left that out?

If you’re being paid by the hour you’re in luck… If you made a flat rate deal you’re probably hosed…

I personally like your idea of exporting different scenes as self-contained elements and assembling your various compilations with those. That’s what I’d do… I suspect any more sophisticated method will wind up being a waste if your time rather than a timesaver.

Yes, but you’ll have a tougher time learning X than the editing with Resolve, or Adobe Premiere for that matter, which is also more like FCP 7 than X.

Given that FCP 7 was “end of lifed” seven years ago, you’re not going to find a boatload of Pany cameras with the option of acquiring camera files that are editable natively without transcoding. So, your best best is most likely a Pany DVX200.

That being said, why don’t you at least try DaVinci Resolve, which is FREE. It is very FCPlike, can be toggled to use FCP keyboard commands, and is one of the most compatible NLEs with all modern cameras and file types, thus allowing you to acquire a modern camera, many of which can be had for $2000 or less. As an example, I have a Sony PVM X70, which is under $2K at B&H.

I understand that… but someone with a brain used science and both have fallen from favor lately… 🙂

I kinda like that solution personally Chris, but it does involve science, and you know what that means nowadays. 🙂

LTO7 tape drives will only drop in price when LTO8 is released. I’m not sure if that’s this NAB or next.

FYI , are you aware that you’re gonna require both a SAS HBA card and software for the LTO6 you’re contemplating? Better add the price of both to your budget if you’re haven’t already considered both.
