WMV is an ancient codec that hasn’t been updated by Microsoft in well over a decade. No pros use it for anything unless they are distributing to people with older computers, and that’s the primary reason it’s still distributed with the Windows OS.

After reading a few zillion of your posts regarding differences in color you’re seeing with various players and codecs, I would advise that you choose one player and that gives you the best results with MP4 and stick with that, perhaps tweaking the gamma a touch if you see a shift between your original and the compressed exports.

Your audience does not use multiple players Duke, and they don’t compare codecs or players side by side like you do. So, your best bet is to choose the tools that look best to your eyeballs, figure out tweaks that you can use universally on most of your exports if required, and stick with that… comparing multiple codecs side by side on multiple players is a sure recipe for lunacy.

If your sequence settings matched your footage properly you should hardly ever see red render bars. I suspect you may have a mismatch. For the record, once you set your seq settings and begin editing, many of the settings in seq settings cannot be changed, and even though they may appear to be changed in the seq settings dialoge, they are not.

So, try opening a new seq… set the seq settings properly however you like, then copy and paste your clips from the earlier timeline.

In addition, you might try opening the render manager and deleting all renders – then render all…

Don’t be so quick to reject the marker solution, cuz tgat really is the best solution. The ability to right-click to see a list of labeled markers, which you can jump to with a click is one of the great benefits of non-linear editing.

Bingo!!! That was precisely my experience with a project my client started. In that case I opened a new project and imported just the sequences I needed after making certain I’d turned off Audio Peak Generation all over.

Also, look to see if there’s a keyboard shortcut you may have inadvertently toggled on…

Your best bet is to research the comparisons published on the Barefeets website. While they might not have any article that is 100% on target with your hardware, you should easily be able to extrapolate from one that is close.

Before you shoot anything get at least one clip somewhere to test, because XAVC is not an easy codec to edit. It’s possible Adobe has optimized Premiere to better support it, but for a long time that was not the case and it was a real bear. You’ll know almost instantly if your computer can handle it, just change the opacity and/or reposition two layers of the same clip – if you drop frames at 1/4 resolution you’ll know immediately that you’ll need to transcode it to ProRes.

I don’t really think there’s a great need for an audio control surface for most users. That being said, in both PP and FCP, changing amplitude with the pen tool adds keyframes, changing with the standard arrow or mouse selection tool does not, so I’d assume that your audio control surface defaults to protocol that emulates the pen tool, but that it must have an option to toggle it to a protocol that behaves like the selection tool.
