Try trashing preferences first. If you don’t know how to do that, search here on the Cow, there are a zillion references to it, or search Apple Help online. FCP Rescue is a great freeware program that will do it for you if you’re the least bit timid. BTW, if you have any special filters or custom settings, those will be lost, so best to open another project in FCP and save them if possible beofre trashing prefs.

I disagree for the following reasons:
1. Like any lawyer, one should always attempt to avoid litigation if possible. Its an unpleasant wasteof time, and it can always backfire, simply because judges are human, and humans make mistakes.
2. Judges respond quite favorably in almost every instance if you can show that you’ve taken the effort to give the bad guy an opportunity to make good. So its in your best interest in case you do ultimately have go to court.

SDI on the Extreme is quite useful for DigiBeta and othere decks that don’t have firewire.

The Diamondmax series is Maxtor’s retail off-the-shelf model. It only has a one year warranty, and undoubtedly they do that for good reason… Maxline is Maxtor’s top of the line OEM model, with a five year warranty. Lots of people get confused because the price on the Maxline OEM is often less than the more flimsy Diamondmax — its most likely that the packaging for the retail model is more expensive than the drive itself.

Apple’s HDV codec is not a universal quicktime that is readable on PCs. You will have to export as DVCPro100 or 8-bit uncompressed.

Actually Bogie, I don’t think it keeps going anymore. At least not here at my shop. I distictly noticed this “feature” and was very pleased with it, as my previous NLE would capture until the drive was full if left to do so.

No drawbacks to firewire capture whatsoever, but FCP 5 will create new clips at every timecode break whether you want it to do that or not.

They are great drives, and I’ve staked my business on them. Newegg is a huge reseller, I’m sure they will restock quickly. Meanwhil, they do have the 300gb SATA drives at only $121.50 at https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144186. Thats a terrific buy…

The Maxtor Maxline SATA drive that I told you about previously at newegg for just $105 was tested against the comparable Seagate drives and it beat them hands down in all catagories. It has a five year warranty too. Just buy one and get back to work.
