  • You can’t download the files because they’re being streamed. The technique is designed to allow tax paying citizens to watch the videos while preventing them from downloading and distributing them. Shoot with a camera off of your monitor if you are really desperate to copy the video…

Use DVDxDV. Its a great little program that rips DVDs and creates very good looking QT files.

  • Howie,

You don’t need to clone your media drive. In fact, cloning the drive would do nothing but clone the current problem that is indicated Tech Tool. Just copy everything across, including directories. If the OS is unable to copy a corrupt file it should issue an error message.

I’d like my Extreme card to display naked pics of Jessica Alba when there’s no video. Do you think they’ll make drivers for that?

    Tony,

Every once in while there’s gonna be an aspect of fiilmmaking that actually isn’t made automatic by a pluggin or a filter. In this case you’re looking at animating a graphic over time using simple scaling in the motion controls. Your best bet is to listen to the heartbeat and time it the rhythm of the beats in frames, and keyframe your graphic accordingly — i.e. something five frames up, five frame down… and then repeat… It’ll take you about five mintues to perfect.

    Mike,

Have you tried deleting render files and rerendering the offending graphic. I’ve seen times when FCP does somehow get stuck on one or more graphics, but its always fixable, eventually. I’ve never seen a graphic yet that was permanently fck’ed up.

    Don,

Your SATA array is clearly not functioning properly. Depending on the number of drives in your array you ahould be getting throughput of 150MB/s to $260MB/s. I would suggest that you disconnect the Kona and work entirely on getting the SATA drive and card configured properly first. Then, go from there… Did you erase the SATA array after initializing???

  • In this case Will you would simply edit your 16×9 material in a 4×3 timeline. Its not perfect, rather another one of those compromises…

    Eric,

There’s no problem running the drive, but is the throughput of single drive, even a 10000 RPM model, good enough for HD? Of course you didn’t mention what flavor or HD…

  • [Will Keir] “but it’s not really realistic”

    Will,

Day for night has never been a “realistic” effect, its always been a compromise. The only secrets are: stop down 3 stops, add a fairly deep blue filter, and most important of all, never shoot the sky, its a dead giveaway every time. You’ll notcie in all the old technicolor westerns, all the angles in the day for night scenes are high angles, shooting downward. Now, you now why…
