What you’re described is not a good scenario for what your stated goals.
Given that you’re editing DVDCAM and uncompressed together, there’s no way you’re going to be editing in realtime with the way you’ve captured your footage. If possible, you should have digitized the DVCAM footage through the Kona card as uncompressed, and edited all on an uncompressed timeline.
And, editing the uncompressed footage on a DV timeline is certainly bassackwards, and guaranteed to take your best footage down to DV level, which is considerably diminished quality and color depth.

Your experience has absolutely nothing to do with Tiger. Its a rock solid OS and used with FCP 5 by many, many professionals right here in L.A. I can assure you, if the problems you describe were inherant in the OS or FCP 5 or the combination of the two, much of what you see everyday on TV would not have made it to air.
I’m also guessing that you need to erase your hrad drive and start over.

Let your eyes be the judge. If it palys back fine on your PAL monitor then it must be PAL.

You’re simply asking for problems without performing a clean install, especially if you’re gonna keep running FCP. Hard drives are very cheap now, like $100 or less. Isn’t your time more valuable than that???

That’s easy… Because I told you to turn it off.
You don’t need journaling on a media drive, its primarily for speeding up reads on system drives.

Use your new drive as a media drive. A 160gb system drive is more than enough for most people. When you initialize and erase your new drive using the disk utility just make certain to turn off journaling, and thats it, you’re good to go.

I was just wondering why you included all that info about your Kona. I’m having difficulty at the moment slowing down one particular shot myself. All others are okay. Its a bit frustrating… I have yet to try every single control, but if I find magic I’ll let ya know.

Its not clear from your post, are you making speed changes on the timeline or somehow during capture?

Hi Howie,
Yep, just drag and drop. Other than the fact that video files are relatively large, they are simple to keep track of compared to system and program files, which often require incremental backups and such. Don’t sweat it, you’ll be fine.
