I only suggested he go 8-bit uncompressed because he had the tools to do it. If he hadn’t been given the Miranda hardware I’d have suggested HDV all the way too.

That can have the opposite effect… Sometimes raising rates can make you seem more “exclusive”
to clients, making you more in demand. However, its certainly better than lowering your rates to discourage clients. -

So long as you have the storage capability, capturing to an i-frame format such as 8-bit uncompressed will make your job considerably faster and easier. Depending on the number of layers, it could even be better, as HDV can be degraded each time you render the same material.

Well, I don’t know about cutting off beat, but if he recommends upgrading without a backup he clearly couldn’t be working on anything he values very highly, and so I’d imagine the street crossing issue and the scissors thing are probably right up his alley too.

If you use Bret’s method you better make absolutely certain that your clone will boot after Carbon Copy Cloner does its thing. It has been known to make unbootable clones. My method is howevere 100% foolproof.

Don’t know what program you’re using on the PC side, but more than likely you should simply export indivdual stereo AIFFs of all your tracks.
You can either put a sync pop on all tracks at the same place, or even simpler, simply make certain that you export each track starting from the same precise timecode on your timeline, such as 01:00:00:00, so that you know exactly how to all tracks with picture in your app on the PC.

Mike, as one old PC guy to another… Buy yourself a new SATA hardrive for $100 and install from the ground up, reserving your present system drive for safety, just in case things don’t go as planned, or in case there’s a file you need from the old drive.
