Many/most broadcast monitors can be switched between 4×3 and 16×9, one of many reasons to use a true broadcast monitor. Your only solution on a 4×3 TV would be to either crop to 4×3, in which case you won’t see the full frame, or letterbox to see the full frame.

Don’t sweat storing on hard drives. Even the cheapest have MTBF (mean time between failures) of 100,000 hours. There’s something to be said for actually running them every so often to keep the bearings lubricated, kind of like a car in storage, but they are pretty hardy mechanical devices, and by the time they’d become problematic you’ll probably be ready to copy them to another medium anyway.

What type of raid are you running?
Also, you shouldn’t have to search your hard drives for media after digitizing. FCP digitizes to a specific directory on the scratch disk that you designate, but more importantly, before openning the capture window you must first designate the bin where you want the media to go by right clicking on the bin and selecting “Set Logging Bin.” If you haven’t been doing that you may want to revisit those manuals that came with your software.

Certainly delivering in an uncompressed format would be best, but since you can’t, give him a QT with photo JPEG compression. Its a very high quality lossless compression scheme that yields very much smaller files than uncompressed. Flash 8 with the On2 VP6 codec is pretty awesome and will make great stuff that pretty much matches the original in terms of quality, but the files are small and fast loading.

It appears that somewhere in your process your fields became reversed. YOu need to find out if that the lab, or if you did it while digitizing.

Forgive me if this is too basic, but, do you completely understand the differences in, and how to use insert edits vs overwrite edits, as well as the two different delete functions (ripple vs. no ripple)? The reason I ask is that, if an editor completely understands those concepts of those functions and their uses, there really is no reason that one should have issues with anything going out of sync or rippling to unwanted places.

Hollywood DVDs are not burned (duplicated), instead they are stamped (replicated). You too can have your DVDs replicated, but you can’t do it yourself, as it requires manufacture of a glass master as well as a very big and expensive factory. In order to be cost effective, the minimum number of units for replication is typically 1000 units, nomally costing between $1000 and $1400, with the average being about $1200, including glass master, boxes and printed sleeves, and printed disc art.
That should just about tell you everything you need to know.

The lavs offer much more isolation than any camera mic or shotgum type mic. You should be much better off using just that channel.
