DVCPro50 uses 2X the hard drive space that DV uses. Figure about 25GB per hour.

Fix one clip and then copy that clip. Now select all clips after that clip and paste attributes, choosing distort from the menu that appears.

To edit you don’t need a card, but to display HD (or HDV) on a broadcast monitor (or TV), either HD or SD, you will need a card. Check out the Decklink Extreme (SD) or the Extreme HD, $895 and $995 respectively. These are the least expensive cards for the job.

You’re paying way too much for your hard drives. Are you buying them at Tiffany’s??? I buy only the best SATA hard drives and they are just $110 these days for 300GB for an internal, which does need an enclosure, but those can be had for under $50. So, I would say that your price per minute estimate is skewed just a bit… Check out the prices at http://www.newegg.com, I think you may need to consider a new reseller.

You’ll be spending a good bit of time rendering, but other than that you’ll be fine. If you convert all your captured HDV material to DVCProHD before editing you might have a little easier time editing simply because HDV is so very processor intensive, while DVCProHD is not. If you doing mostly cuts only, don’t sweat it, but if you’re layering, doing split screens, etc., consider converting before you edit.

Its very possible that these “dust mites” are in your render files only and they may well be related to your almost full raid. You might try to trash your render files and re-render before recapturing.

Until you evaulate the tapes all else is just a guess. There can certainly be issues stemming from the way you’ve piggie-backed your camera through the firewire drive. Some people get away that, some don’t. But, vealuate those tapes frist and at least eliminate that side of things if you can, that way yu can focus on the capture if that is where the problems lay.
