    Hi Don,

I’ve done a 2 minute test with Compressor which took 33 minutes to render out. It helped a little but took way too long – I’ve got 6 25 minute programs to process and a deadline looming.

Yesterday we went to a duplication facility to evaluate the footage on broadcast monitors and get another set of eyes on the phenomenon. We didn’t see the flicker there.

Given that Compressor takes too long to process we may end up running this through Digital Rapids encoder.

Re Interlaced v progressive: The client wanted it delivered 50i so we chose a shooting format that was closest to the deliverable.

You comment about shutter speed is interesting. You’re right that the artifacts are evident when there is moderate or fast motion so perhaps adjusting the shutter speed would have helped.

Thanks for you continued help with this.

    Cheers,

    David

    Hi Don,

Thanks for responding! Field order in the clips and FCP sequences match; both are ‘upper field first’.

    Hi Michael,

My apologies for not acknowledging your help sooner.

The points you bring up make perfect sense. The client’s request for MainConcept Mpeg 2 is not enough. I’ll ask for more detail.

Good to know that Compressor could be helpful with this.

    Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the advice Dave, I believe I’ve got the ‘original footage’ ie stock footage clips from news orgs. Interlaced upper field dominance.

I’ll take a look at Twixtor

    Cheers

    Hi John,

Thanks for the reply. I migrated the settings two ways. I exported them from inside Avid and also copied the settings folder from the Users folder – which has the .avs, .ave, files – to the 8200 . Does that sound right?

On the 8200 running 5.2 when I opened up a bin a dialogue box comes up telling me, in effect, that the bin contains information that is not relevant to the project.

My laptop had been upgraded to Xpress pro 5.7. My install discs installed 5.2, Perhaps this version difference is the root of the problem. I’ll be installing the upgrade.

Open to any other suggestions as well.

    Cheers

    Thanks Job,

If by Brief mode you mean ‘Brief View’ then no. All of this is happening while I’m in the bin’s Text View setting.

Thanks Michael and Ricky for your help a few weeks back. I ended taking a short term approach and bought an older HP workstation instead.

    Hi Ben,

Thanks for the user setting idea. I can’t remember the exact time this started happening. It is a terrible thing to admit but I don’t feel comfortable doing system restore . Also not familiar with switching/creating user settings. I’ll have to bring this to a tech I use in emergencies.

I did notice that in addition to not being able to drag/duplicate to other bins I can’t load clips to source window by dragging them. Can’t drag sequences to the Record window to open Timeline either.

I revisited Avid Fourms and found someone else had this problem https://c2.avid.com/forums/p/64808/362951.aspx
they were advised to “Trash: MC State, Site_Settings, Site_Attributes” I did that but no difference.

    Anyway, thanks for your help.

Thanks Chris. StageTools is a much easier and faster way to go. I may have to just bite the bullet and get it.
