Hi John,
Thanks for the suggestion to look at the number of objects in a bin as a possible problem area. I found a related discussion here. https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/45/865442
I wonder if this is the problem though if I can’t copy/duplicate/move clips in my other smaller projects that only have a handful of clips in a couple of bins.
Cheers,
David

Thanks Job,
I tried both switching to other User Settings and creating new User Settings. I opened up older and smaller projects and still had the same problems.

Hi Ben,
Thanks for the suggestions. I didn’t find an answer in the Knowledge Base or Avid’s website,
Setting up a new Avid user didn’t help either unfortunately. I switched users, created a new user profile with no improvement.
I opened up other smaller Avid Projects and still no ability to Copy/Duplicate clips tothe other bins in those projects either
Not having luck creating and switching to a new Window XP user. New user names don’t show up on reboot or as an option on Log Off. Plus I’m the only on on this computer so no possibility of User Contamination – if there is such a thing?
Thanks again for your time

Hi Ben,
I don’t get an error message or dialogue box telling me what’s going on.
When I select an item the cursor is shaped like a hand. When I drag/alt drag the item into the new bin it will either remain hand shaped (if I’m hovering over the first column in text view, the clip symbol) or shaped like an “I” beam (if I hover over the Name column) or an arrow (if I hover over any of the columns to the left of Name).
Whatever the shape of the cursor though I can’t move/copy that clip!
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I regularly visit Mandy but have only recently started checking out Production Hub.
Thanks as well for all the work you do for the Cow. It seems that everytime I read something helpful on the Cow you’ve been part of the exchange.

Thanks Tom.
Sorry for the confusion. I agree that affiliate clips can only be in the same project as the master clip. Originally the media used to create the Final Sequence and the Final Sequnce itself were in the same project. Ove the years media for this project was lost. The Final Sequence was cut and pasted into a new project and redigitized creating new master clips for that project.
Now, going back to the original project I find bins with all the tapes/reel info. I don’t see that Final Sequence though. I copy that back into the original project from another project.
At this point there is no media for either the original project or the Final Sequence. My hopw was that once I redigitize the master clips in the Tapes/Reels bin in the original project, footage would reappear in the Final Sequence.
My redigitizing the master clips does not reestablish the master affiliate relationship. The Final Ssequence has to be redigitized on its own, even though that exact media exists in the bins with the redigitized Reel/Tapes.
It was suggested that I changing the tape names in the “Reel” Collumn. I’m not sure that will work since they are identical.
Would Reconnect Media work in this case? Thanks in advance for any ideas

Thanks for the clarification John. “Horrifically tedious” sums it up if I were to use this approach. I guess I’m left with a project that has duplicate media. As this is an archival project this duplication migh not be ok.

How does one overwrite the files? I posted a separate question today Feb 26 related to your comment. Could you please read that post? Any advice would be appreciated
