Just for clarification, I never determined conclusively that the Blackmagic driver uninstaller hit this file – it was just a thought I had while troubleshooting the problem. That could be the culprit. Also could be that I upgraded my system to Tiger instead of doing a clean install. Or a problem with Apple’s installer. Certainly things to investigate though.. at least now a workaround to the issue is known.

December 14, 2005 at 6:21 pm in reply to: Decklink HD and SATA card – Slot problem??

    Bob,

I wouldn’t say the cards have no problem.. I have a Sonnet Tempo-X eSata8 card in my G5, and ever since I installed it, the computer crashes and requires a hard power-down if I accidentally let it fall asleep. Sonnet acknowledges the bug, but it’s been 5 months since they updated the firmware for the card. Every card seems to have some issue.

Ed – what Sata card is Lacie including? I bought a G-SATA that came with a cheap FirmTek card. LaCie might be doing something similar.

You might want to check out the Pioneer VSX-815.

I have one of these. I have both the Decklink Component Analog and Coaxial Digitial Audio routing through. The particularly nice thing is that it has a pre-out that I can use to send stereo signals into my much nicer amp to power the speakers. It also works as a component video switch, and will accept the optical audio from the G5 directly.

The downside I’ve noticed is that I can no longer output 23.976 directly to the HDTV in either SD or HD, and let the TV do the pulldown. Now I have to have the Blackmagic card do it. It might be different if your display accepts and can run at 24P.

    Luke,

That’s only true for users using FCP5 / Tiger, correct?

November 1, 2005 at 12:16 am in reply to: Dell 24″ w/ HDLink

    I just tried this..
I bought a Dell 2405FPW to do this with.
The monitor is great as an alternative to the Apple display for a desktop monitor.
However, as a video monitor, it has some serious issues. The built-in scaler to make SD full screen from component or composite video is aweful. (The HDlink is much better.) The color for video isn’t all that great either.
On top of that, if you don’t own a Dell CPU, it’s nearly impossible to get tech support. The CPU number is required to log a support issue online.
I am returning mine today. I’ve already replaced it with a Sony LCD HDtv, which works great, and was less expensive than the Dell / HDlink combo.

I guess I would ask exactly what you want to view before saying what will work for you though.

Tried that – didn’t do it.

BTW – On DV stuff the shift does not happen using a monitor output through firewire.

    Thanks though!

I just borrowed a HDlink from the dealer I bought the Decklink from.
Exactly the same thing happens when I set the output to 1080 23.976. Display goes black and the card hangs. Quitting FCP, I see that the Blackmagic Desktop has also disappeared. Only rebooting brings the card back. Again, the 23.976 > 59.97 displays properly. Is this normal?

Ok, things have improved a bit.
Turning off the HDTV up/down Convertor in the system prefs allows me to view HD material on the Dell through the component input. However, it only functions in the 23.976 > 29.97 output mode. Attempting to send a 23.976 1080 signal directly to the monitor continues to hang the card, and require a system reboot.
Progress, yes. But I was hoping to view things at 24P.
