Is it possible to monitor 1080 23.976 PsF with the Dell’s analog input, or only with the HDlink?

Well.. it’s not going so well at this time.. (a few hours after getting the Dell monitor)

I have the analog component outputs from the Decklink card going into BNC to RCA plugs, and then I’m using a component RCA cable to connect to the component input on the Dell monitor.
The SD 23.976 material is working fine.
However, I can’t get the 1080 23.976 PsF material to play at all. It won’t downconvert to SD and play – it just stays on the static frame as the clip plays on the Cinema Display. When I try to switch to 1080 HD setting, the monitor goes black, and won’t even switch back to the SD mode. The computer must be rebooted to get the signal working in SD again. Since that takes about 15 minutes (including launching FCP), it’s a real drag. Any thoughts?

    Thanks

  • I just got a Decklink 4:4:4 board, and I’m also seeing the same issue. Realtime downconvert to SD is MUCH softer than taking HD material, dropping it into a SD timeline, rendering, and playing.. I’ll be getting my HD monitor today to view the output on that.
My source files are 1080 23.976 PsF.

Use coupon code 69$8KC79D53S2H. It’s valid for another couple of days, or until 1500 people redeem the offer.
Props to barefeats for posting it.

Ok, I guess that makes sense.
The Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW 24″ LCD went back to $779, so I just ordered one of those. I will try it with component analog and see how it looks. I’ll grab a HDlink if it is unacceptable.

    Thanks

    I can’t speak for Blackmagic’s plans, but..
PCI-X cards (like the current Decklink HD for G5) physically don’t fit into the PCI-express slots on the new Powermac G5s.

Are there known issues with using Blackmagic cards with 10.3.9? Or is just not formally tested?

I already had my system at 10.3.9 when I bought my card, and there is no way I’m going through the process to move it back to 10.3.8. Also, all the new stuff Apple is releasing, such as iTunes, requires 10.3.9 to install.

    Thanks

To clarify, are we talking about the Dell UltraSharp 2405FPW 24-inch LCD? I just called Dell to order one yesterday to use with the Decklink HD Pro 4:4:4 card I just bought, because I saw it had component inputs. However, the salesperson told me that the component input was SD only. Is that true? I put off the purchase, as I don’t have a HDLink and wanted to see if there were other monitor options available that had HD component inputs.

    Thanks!
