IMHO, your best bet is to shoot in your camera’s native 4:3 aspect ratio.
Then use the widescreen matt in FCP to suit your needs.
Once you have selected which matt to use, just compose your shots so that they fit the framing of the matt.

As John points out, white balancing is not an issue, as much as color temp mismatch is.
Down and dirty yourself a sheet each of the Plusgreen gel range for your hot lights, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, Full.
I have use just such a critter in the field.
It has a video output/input select switch on the side of the unit.
Of course this feature may be brand/model dependent.
