I’ve heard of guys using portable dvd players as monitors in the field….becuase they’re so cheap and disposable. Most of them have a lot of outputs but apparently no imputs. Anyone used these? I know these wouldn’t be used for critical work – more to hand to a producer to check out the framing, etc.

I have use just such a critter in the field.
It has a video output/input select switch on the side of the unit.
Of course this feature may be brand/model dependent.

A year or so ago I bought an AMW portable. It stopped playing dvds after a year, but the video inpput still was fine. That’s when I started using it for stuff like you’re asking about. Heck of a lot smaller/lighter than the field broadcast monitors (ALWAYS take 1 of those, but now I don’t need 2). Little bit o’ gaff tape & it sits real nice whereever I need it.
