    Hi Chris,

Yeah, that had to be annoying! If I had to guess (and that’s exactly what I’m doing) I’d say it’s being caused by some sort of cell phone interference. At least, I’ve been in a couple of instances where a similar sound occurred.

Hey Joseph, thanks for the info. So in the Use QuickTime Conversion, should I use the image sequence? And if so, should it be JPEG 24 or 23.98?

    lol. I see I had a mistype 🙂

Basically, I just want to make sure that if I use an external drive for my raw footage, and have the avid software on the internal drive, that all will still work (considering my internal drive is 5400). Right now I’m cutting a doc this way on FCP7. I know Avid is a bit different with the way it uses bins so, I just want to make sure this set up will work.

I’d be using a separate drive to store all the raw material on; Symphony would be on the internal drive. Of course, the why Avid works with bins (storing them on the same drive), maybe this wouldn’t work?

I use Edius 6 at a “place of business” and really like it. The interface may be my favorite of all the non-linears I’ve used. I do think they needed a cross platform a lot earlier then now, however. I think they may have missed a lot of new business with mac users.

After further reading on Avid’s site, I believe I get an Activation # during the registration. I hope so, anyway as there wasn’t one in the box!

I received the software (or rather, the install disk and paperwork) today. It has the System ID but no Activation ID. Is my FCP serial # my Activation ID since it’s a crossgrade?

IMHO, you want the Sanken cos11. Someone on here, years ago, did an extensive lav mic comparison and (if I remember right) concluded that the Sanken cos11 sounds the most like a boom mic and will match one.

It’s what I use and I would concur based on the lavs I have used. Just make sure you don’t place it to close. Remember, you want it to sound like a boom, not a lav; put it about middle of the chest area.

To be honest, I didn’t download it because I not planning on installing it at the moment, as I’m not sure if I’ll be using it on my current system. Of course, maybe that didn’t matter anyway but, I didn’t want to get into a situation where I had to download and/or install it immediately.

Hopefully all will be well my install, though. The item has shipped and should be here on Thursday. So when I install it, I assume Avid will provide me with the codes and ID?

Avid really is the way to go. I currently use FCP 7. I have used an older version of Avid and also currently edit with GVG Edius. But I’ll be editing with Avid once I finish the current project I’m cutting.

There really is something to be said for learning what’s considered the industry standard. You never know where your next job will be or where you may find yourself working. You want to be ready, and chances are, Avid will be there.

    Best,
