  • After Effects has been able to open layered psd files for a long time. It can even open layered files with live 3d layers on them.

Haven’t used Motion so I can’t tell you if it will be opening AE projects, seems unlikely.

Since Photoshop and After Effects are both Adobe, making them talk to each other is seamless, very easy. I don’t think that’s the case with Motion and Photoshop.

If your question is directed to which one you should buy, I’d say After Effects.

I’m all for Macs, so if you can afford a Macbook Pro, 15 or 17 inches, that’s my recommendation.
The new 15′ no longer has the Expresscard 34 slot, so if you think that’s going to be necessary you will have to go for a 17 inch.

I was able to save without trouble, I’m on CS5.
Try converting your text to outlines before saving, perhaps that will help.

Cinema 4D brings anything that appears on the page that might be confused with bezier objects. Try for example importing a document with guides on it. Regardless of whether they are visible or invisible they will show up in Cinema 4d as splines.

you could make a circle first, and then modify it to match the first inner shape, the red one.

The go to object>path>offset path to create a new path outer of the original one, the modify the points of that one to have the slight variations of it. you could modify it either with the direct selection tool, with the smooth tool or with the warp tool (or any of its siblings), the offset the path again, tweak it a little to get the shape you want and then group them together. Then group the shapes you already created with the pen tool, select both groups (the 9 shapes on top) and mask them.

  • I don’t think it’s possible in Illustrator, but what are you intending to do? Perhaps can be achieved in a different way.

  • That’s to hide the edges.

What you’re looking for is view>show bounding box.

I tried fn-M from my macbook pro and all I’m getting is any mask available on my comps to be unfolded on the timeline, no ram preview.

  • It wasn’t random, I tried it as a last resort when everything else failed, (sigh) I guess it was random after all. Anyway, I’ll re render to a different format to see if that solves the issue.

    Thanks for your valuable feedback.

  • Dave, the codec is Sorenson 3, I’m not very informed on which codecs are good and which aren’t but I was under the impression that Sorenson is among the accepted ones, am I wrong?
