I haven’t bothered to read most of those posts, Roth, but are there common threads amongst them?
I have been capturing 40 minute DV tapes as single clips for the last few days and have no such issues.Umm, just a second, lemme go check that.

Try searching here and other FCP forums for Operation Not Allowed. There are hundreds of threads available but only a few solutions. IIRC it’s usually a question of not having write privileges on the target drive but there are many possible issues.

You either have not set the render drive location correctly, there is not enough room on the render drive, you have no write privileges for the render drive or some other very subtle issues. We have had no issues with 10.4.6 but our setups are different than yours or probably any of his.
I have found these blanket warnings to be silly in the long run but each of us must protect our systems as we see fit.bogiesan

Around here, thousands of us have been using it for many years and no one has mentioned this as a desired function to have outside of FCP. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your desires but I've never needed an external previewing app in more than 10 years of NLE use with Media 100, FCP, Motion, or LiveType. Difference between your scanner producing square pixels and video being non-square pixels. It’s all quite confusing and takes years to grasp.

Media Manager’s interface looks like it was designed by Microsoft geeks and rejected as being too easy to use. It was clearly not created by or for video people. It is uniquely opaque in Apple’s arsenal otherwise useful tools.
Read the manual carefully. Read it again.
Set up a practice project. I’m not kidding, MM is that stupid. You’ve got to shoot some junk and capture it and edit it and then practice with it. You will also need an external drive for the target of the practice session. You want the fresh stuff so you’re not messing with anything valuable. You want the external drive because you don’t want to risk overwriting anything locally and you don’t want to be able to confuse the MM results with anything on your real drives.Capture about ten minutes of footage to your local drive. Make a quick sequence of about three minutes out of anything. Include at least two long effects renders and some transitions. You’ve got to establish some render footage. Bring in one or two Photoshop images or JPEGs and maybe a quick LiveType or Motion piece.
Render everything like you normally would to your local drives.
Now, use Media Manager to make a COPY of your project to the external drive.
Use any settings you want to try. Experiment and be sure to name the projects differently. Look carefully at the results to see if the reference images came in, how much of the unused video got successfully trimmed out, what renders failed to make the journey. Then try again.Wish it was easier. MM blows. Totally.
But after three or four major episodes (good and disastrous) you will be quite comfortable with it. In fact, you’ll get so good at MM, you’ll wonder just what the heck I’m so pi$$ed off about.bogiesan

My suggestion is to hook up a DV deck to the output of your Media 100 and just dump everything you have. Organize it if you can but you just want to get everything off your drives that exists in a M100 format. However... Do those rat bastards at M100 still make a free decompressor? You should have it on your FCP system. Make disk images of your M100 media drives and use the decompressor to bring them into FCP.
