  • Problems with 10.4.6????

Hi there. I’m just taking a survey basically.

We have been having problems with 3 G-Raid drives intermittently going offline and progressively getting worse until the drive will not mount.

My Mac expert is telling the powers that be that this is due to problems from the OS 10.4.6 update that we downloaded and installed from Apple.

He says that there are major problems with 10.4.6 and he has had to completely rebuild a dozen systems.

We have had no problems with the systems other then this issue with the G-Raids.

    My question is….
Has anyone else had issues with 10.4.6 in anyway?

    Thanks

We have had no issues with 10.4.6 but our setups are different than yours or probably any of his.
I have found these blanket warnings to be silly in the long run but each of us must protect our systems as we see fit.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

I was forced to upgrade to 10.4.6 last week when I updated FCP to 5.1. I have 1 G-RAID and I am happy to report that so far so good… no issues.

None whatsoever. Nada. Zero. If you have a peculiar problem that only happens with some specific type of hardware, say all of your G Raid drives going offline, but nothing else is effected (including your other FW devices), then it’s probably not the fault of the OS. It’s most likey the fault of the drive (or other device).

That’s my point to the powers that be, but they are no telling us not to download any software or updates with out checking with IT.

Our IT department knows nothing about MAC’s.

We are having this problem wih 1 G-Raid drive on each of our three systems even though we each have an additional G-Raid and another firewire drive.

It doesn’t make sense that this OS upgread would only effct 1 out of 2 G-Raids and not the other firewire devices, including out AJA IO’s.

Some people just don’t use logic.

    Thanks

I know no one wants to hear this because of a good track record, but this is a problem with your GRAID. Head on over to the GRAID forum and you’ll see a long list of complaints. This exact thing happened to my AE guy and he had to send it back. Supposedly, G Technologies tracked it down to a faulty on/off switch (hence the mounting and unmounting). You probably hear a bunch of clicks and the light on the GRAID is blinking ultra fast, no? Back up your media before sending it away.

    Thank you Jeremy.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear.
Now I can go to my bosses with proof that it is not an issue with the OS, but with the G-Raid itself.

    Thanks

    FWIW:

I have a fleet of graids and this same problem has only just shown it’s head. Only on 10.4.6 machines. We’ve had to manage some other tweaky things as a result of 10.4.6. Overall it is fine. The graid thing is a new one for me to chase down. I suspect it is a problem managing the FW port as it seems a particular problem on IO or DV via firewire connected equipment.

    Keep you posted.

    Ian;

The issue is a problem with the G-Raids

Look at this other post by Jeremy…
