  • Unable to export seq via Compressor…

    Hi –

I have a timeline that refuses to export using Compressor. Nothing about the sequence seems odd. Whatever needs to be rendered, is.

The export begins, and then fails with a message “Operation not allowed.” I worked around it, but exporting directly as a QT, but I want to try to figure out what the issue is. Has anyone else ever encountered this? Or is it just an anomaly and I should trash prefs and move on?

    Thanks

    Ron

I never use this operation as it results in a slower render in Compressor. This leaves FCP open in the background so Compressor just runs slower.

The better way to do this is simply export a reference QT, quit FCP, then launch Compressor and run that normally.

Try searching here and other FCP forums for Operation Not Allowed. There are hundreds of threads available but only a few solutions. IIRC it’s usually a question of not having write privileges on the target drive but there are many possible issues.

    Guys –

Thanks. Yea, I don’t use the direct-export-via-compressor much either, but, as it turns out, I couldn’t get a non-dependent QT to encode either. Very weird. Luckily it’s a short one-off project. And I’ll check out those threads on “Operation Not Allowed!” Aren’t error message helpful?!

Walter, is ref. movie export still done by simply exporting an FCP movie and unchecking the ‘make movie self-contained’ button? If so, doesn’t this method render any effects beforehand?

What I’m getting at is…does it still hold true that exporting to MPEG-2 directly from an unrendered FCP timeline (via Compressor) result in better quality fx and colour correcting b/c it bypasses an extra level of DV25 compression?

    > Aren’t error message helpful?< FCP has some of the lamest error messages Apple ever created. If you get it figured out, please post your results. This will help tremendously with the database of Operation Not Allowed threads. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
