FCP – rendering
Posted by Matthieu on June 5, 2006 at 7:43 pmHi There,
I have a major problem with FCP. I have installed many versions of FCP and each time I was unable to render. Then I formated my hardisk, and installed the latest version (that I bought) of FCP. Unfortunately I am again unable to render the effects of my videos. Would you know by any chance what might be the problem here ?… Sincerely, I do noy know what else I can do about that…many thanks for your help,

June 5, 2006 at 8:19 pmI have checked everything in user preferences :
Filters, images fusion, animation fuzz (sorry for the translation from the french) ; frequency is 100% and so is resolution.

June 5, 2006 at 10:03 pmAre all the color selections checked in the pull-down menu for sequence render settings (from the top menu bar). If not, checked all of them and render the entire sequence. See if this works.

June 6, 2006 at 9:36 amHi Matthieu,
Do not look any further, this is most probably the answer, especially if you’re new to fcp 5.
This is one of the most commun problem editors ( new or experienced ) ran into with this new version ( might even have started with version 4, cannot remember now).
Salut

June 6, 2006 at 11:54 amYes, in the sequence bar for “render all”, all the colors are clicked.
When I want to render, a window appears just for one second. Nothing on it is written, only “0%”.
I use use FCP version 5.1.1 on OSX 10.4.6.

You either have not set the render drive location correctly, there is not enough room on the render drive, you have no write privileges for the render drive or some other very subtle issues. Let's keep trying here. Does anyone have a three step experiment to run? Oooh, I do. Start an empty project. Create a single text item that is, say, 10 seconds long. What color are the render bars? bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

June 6, 2006 at 7:47 pmIf you are using 10-bit YUV you might run into this problem, especially if you have Motion Blur turned on. Right-click your sequence and go to Settings… Click on the Video Processing tab and select 8-bit YUV, then try to render.
Again, this is IF you are using 10-bit YUV (which is for the most part entirely broken if used for anything other than straight cutting). The more info you can give us about your project settings the better we can help.
