> We just scrapped the other codecs and went with Animation.< Thanks for closing the thread with your solution, hardly anyone ever does that around here. There have been many articles in the trade magazines about digital intermediates and the workflow hassles. My impression is that this is not for the timid. It requires justification based on the demands of the release format and the needs of the production boutiques for crossplatform and universal format exchanges. Nice to see Animation can still hold its own against the new stuff. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

> Not really sure how the previous editor worked like that but I can’t.< This is not a good foundation to create an argument for a capital investment. If your boss has no idea how the edit bay functions, your case is lost before it starts. Nothing you can say or do will make any difference. If you want your new company to invest in new hardware to suit your desires, your case is made by figuring out how their cost is going to be recovered, not how it keeps you off your hands and knees. I don't know anything about your operation or the personalities involved but if you're new in the organization, you need play by their rules. Your rules don't matter yet and you can get a reputation as s nob or a jerk quickly by insisting "this is no way to run a suite," especially if they've been doing just fine for many years. You can’t make this decision based only on what we think is useful. You need to calculate your budget, your desktop space, distance you like to work from the monitor, how may windows you like to have open and what your needs might be for impressing your clients.
For the latter, there is nothing like a 30″ Apple Cinema. Absolutely nothing. Buddy of mine has two on his FCP machine just to make viewing comfortable for one major client, a filmmaker whose vision is failing. However, he has found the dual 30s to be delightful. I’ve worked on it, I’d have them too, if I could get my boss to buy them for me.

I’d talk to a film printing house or your distributor.

“General error” can be searched for here, we see several posts every week, but 48 is new to me. 41 indicates a file was created on a version of FCP that is newer than the one trying to open the file.
Because the term is so vague and can mean lots of things, exactly what do YOU mean by “proxy footage?”

The downloaded file is probably quite small. Find the Web site again and look for a higher rez version.

> I upgraded to this on my everyday machine, and ever since then if I bring over a QT file from one of my production machines it has no icon and if I double click it opens in Real Player! Go figure. Any issues with this upgrade and FCP Studio? May as well go for it as I’m between major jobs, unless I hear differently…< Files don't carry a creator fork in OS10 as they did in past Macintosh OS. However, you should be able to Get INfo on one of them, change the Open With setting to QT and then hit the "apply to all similar files" button. Any QT file we upload to our server has a generic icon when we download it back to an editor. Quirkiness fo the Winderz/mac network. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

It’s hard to tell from here, sorry. But you’re going to enjoy your new application in just a few hundred hours.
I’ve been on 7 since it first shipped. There are some subtle differences in how the interface works but they do not extend to layer controls. Have you tried moving the anchor point back to the center of the object? There is no option for anchor point to be anywhere but in the center.
I’ve got to stoop so low as to suggest you maybe start with the basics tutorial. I just do not see where you can be mistaking how the controls are used or how the layers are handled in 7.0, it’s really no different than earlier versions.
