Radio Waves, absolutely. read the effects help pages very carefully, Radio Waves is much more interesting than it appears when you first open it up. totaltraining.com might have some old RW tutorials online.
That’s just a good place to start, though. The waves could pass around and over your text elements (use bevel alpha and an add transfer mode as an easy place to start). You could Wave World to generate radiating waves from the letters themselves.
Bring the letters onto the screen with a subtle lens warp effect or like they are begin switched on, like an old style television set (see that tutorial here on the cow).

Not that I’ve ever been able to tell. However, you can precompse the cylinder’s content layer and move it around. That’s what I usually do.
Example: about the only thing I’ve ever used Cylinder for is to animate travel routes, especially flight paths. I compose the stroke or beam layer that represents the route, precompose it, wrap it around a cylinder in the downstream comp. I can roughly position the cylinder image and then go back upstream and start moving the route generator around till the endpoints are about where I need them to be. The anchor point position of the precomposed layer determines much about how it is positioned on the cylinder.

Buy some stock footage of fireworks or wait till July and shoot ’em yourself.
All fireworks simulations look like they are simulations, even Trapcode’s. It takes a lot of work to introduce such chaotic randomness as air movements and misfiring payloads into a simulation. Today’s audiences see simulations immediately and this can seriously detract form your communications efforts. Depends on your need for realism.

It is not easy but it’s not impossible to create a double helix using Sphere or Cylinder.
Rob’s suggestion to use Ball Action is very cool. It can actually be done.The issue is your need for realism. If you need accuracy, you need a 3d artist who understands the medicine.
