FCP history
Posted by Michael Valletta on April 5, 2007 at 10:01 pmWhen was FCP first launched, what year exactly? I didn’t get into the game until late 2001, about version 3 I think.
Thanks,
MV

April 5, 2007 at 10:16 pmWhile it’s never wise to FULLY trust Wikipedia, I think the dates in the “History” section are pretty accurate.

April 5, 2007 at 11:43 pmI bought Version 1 in the summer of 1999, it was a gamble at the time, nobody knew what it was. There were alot of other options at the time and we almost went with them when we started our production company. Glad we chose the right one back then, we were lucky. I really like FCP, and it’s only getting better.

April 6, 2007 at 12:52 amThanks to all of you. I’m putting together some information for a possible brochure, just wanted the facts right. Found it on the Wikipedia site. Interesting really, wonder what happened to the guys who actually figured out how to get away from hardware (avid) to software (fcp)?

April 6, 2007 at 1:27 amPremiere was software based before FCP. A number of Adobe engineers went out on their own. Premiere was stagnating with its two track and transition track design. The only thing I think in history that’s not quite right is that Ralph Fairweather, who was QA on v1, had already left Apple shortly after the product was released and when he was helping people on 2-pop.
All the best,
