    Hello all,

I been running through the various posts related to this problem, but have yet to come up with a consistent answer.

I am here at work, trying to export a HDV file for use in After Effects. The file was captured using the Apple Intermediate Codec at 1080i60.

The user we are trying to upload this footage for cannot view the captured QuickTime file with the Apple Intermediate Codec when he opens it in QuickTime. I decided to export the file in Compressor using HDV 1080i60 and DVCPRO HD 1080i60; both of these formats were under the Advanced Format Conversions option. Upon, submitting the batch export, both files immediately fail stating “Codec not installed”.

Does anyone know how I can remedy this? Is there a place to download and install the DVCPRO HD 1080i60 and HDV 1080i60 codecs? We tried installing the Apple Intermediate Codec on the user’s machine, but it would not let us select the Macintosh HD to install it.

Any help is MUCH appreciated! We are under the gun here and cannot figure out why there are no codecs on these mahcines!
    Thanks In Advance!

It is my understanding that those codecs are packaged with Final Cut Pro, but not After Effects. So if the other guy that you are trying to send the footage to doesn’t have FCP on his system, he probably won’t have the codecs as you’ve found out.

How can you get around this? Well, it might be against the license agreement of Final Cut Pro, but I suppose that “hypothetically” you could email the other guy the components that he need from the library/quicktime/ folder. If he loads that into the same folder, it should work. But if he’s on a PC, good luck trying to get him the components.

    Good luck regardless,

Ah yes. Thank you for the response!

We have IT coming over in a second to take a look at this. The user is on a Mac, however I neglected to mention that the final product will be for an Avid Media Composer system. I didn’t think this would matter too much due to the fact that we’ll still have to go into After Effects and export that for Avid.

Yes, the first problem is getting it into AE. Then there is AVID…. JK…. It can’t be that hard….. RIGHT?

    HeHe Lovely, Avid.

Got it working! We just scrapped the other codecs and went with Animation.

    Thanks for the responses!

    > We just scrapped the other codecs and went with Animation.< Thanks for closing the thread with your solution, hardly anyone ever does that around here. There have been many articles in the trade magazines about digital intermediates and the workflow hassles. My impression is that this is not for the timid. It requires justification based on the demands of the release format and the needs of the production boutiques for crossplatform and universal format exchanges. Nice to see Animation can still hold its own against the new stuff. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
